They already did that with the Mach-E. Nothing on that vehicle has anything to do with the Mustang aside from some horse badges. Name IP is super contested with cars so might as well run it back if you already have a trademark.

I am not enough of a Ford enthusiast to get the full grasp of it all regarding the Lightning name, but it just seems that you wouldn't call a vehicle that has a commercial grade trim 'Lightning'. Even if you didn't know about the history of Ford Lightning, it sounds like it belongs on a performance vehicle.

Also, Ford is getting too confusing with their models and trim offerings. In 2020 and earlier... The brand is Ford, the model is F150, the trim's are XL,XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Raptor. Pretty straight forward. In 2022, in theory there will be Ford-F150-- with trims XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Tremor, Raptor (Raptor -R sub-trim?), Lightning (Commercial, XLT, Lariat, Platinum sub-trims?). Are there Tremor sub-trims too? That's not including multiple packages, engine/battery options and such that are selectively available on certain trims...and sub-trims. How many different possible combinations are there now...before you even pick a color? What are the odds that a dealership happens to have the exact combination you want?

Zero unless you want it fully loaded up. Dealers order fully loaded vehicles because the profit is higher and impatient buyers will pay more rather than ordering and waiting. I typically order and wait. It has saved me huge amounts of money. Even more when you consider that by ordering, I can shop dealers all over the state until I find one willing to sell at invoice.

It's the way marketing works. Remember the Mustang II? The Bronco II? It was really hard to get enthusiastic about either one.
yeah I remember, and those turned out to be like episodes 1-3 for star wars fans, they happened but no one talks about it.

I like the Lightning and with some better wheels it would round it out. I have a feeling we're seeing some of the last gas powered Raptors.

This is the truck for the masses, not necessarily the performance minded. With that said it can come super bland for fleet or dressed up as you saw it. I would have to think if it goes over well, many more models or variations of it will follow. Ford didn’t seem to bring out the EV Hummer or the Tri motor Cybertruck. But rather something more people can afford and who it can appeal to. I can state my likes and dislikes of it. But in reality it’s a pretty good start. If you don’t know Ford by now, trucks styling will never drastically change from year to year. They want to keep there base intact.

I didn't care for the silver wheel that was on the stage, but saw a different black wheel I liked. But I think it brings up a good point. Want to put on all terrain wheels, more aggressive tires? That's going to eat into your range.

And we are no where near seeing the last gas powered Raptors. Ford even stated that they didn't put a hybrid in the Raptor because then it wouldn't be a Raptor.

There needs to be a 400+ mile range and much improved charging speeds before that happens. Even then there still aren't any charging stations off road.

Ford is playing the long game. They know that it will help tremendously if they have a solid base of fleet sales. Not only is it solid revenue, but gets more customers warmed up to the idea of driving an electric truck. The problem with the hummer, just like the previous iterations of the hummer, is that it's an attempt to capitalize on a trend rather than build a vehicle that will appeal long term. It will be a thing for a few years, and then gone. Cybertruck could end up the same way, but I suspect it will last a bit longer and transition into something that will appeal more to the typical truck buyer.
