Trucks are expensive. Period. A fully loaded Rebel? $70k. A fully loaded TRD Pro coming out? About $68k. A fully loaded 150 Tremor? $70k. So the way I looked at it, my $81k bad@ss raptor is only costing me about $10-12k more than most trucks I’d consider anyway. Dude that’s like 3 or 4 Covid shifts at the hospital for my sugar momma!

What an entertaining thread! To the OP, I think your premise is a bit flawed. A great use of $90k to you might be a total waste to someone else. I have 911's in the garage that I would MUCH rather drive than a raptor and will likely hold their value much better over time. They are a better "use" of $90k to me, but I can't drive them daily so it really doesn't matter. If you have $90k to spend on a weekend toy then just decide what type of fun you want to have.

As others have said, there aren't many all season vehicles you can buy that retain their value like a raptor. I think the Gen 3 is one of the best all around daily drivers money can buy right now.

Not sure how a 450HP twin turbo engine could leave anyone “cold”. And despite your misleading claims, it shares 60% of its parts with the GT. You can literally swap parts between the two engines, they’ll bolt right on. As far as the rest of the truck, Gen 2 and 3 Raptor dont even share the same frame with other F-150 models.

Value is relative to competition. The Raptor was in a class of 1. Now a class of 2 with the TRX, which is just as expensive. You can’t compare a sport car with an off road Baja truck, they serve two completely different purposes.

The new Z06 is a beautiful, high performing car. But it is in no way a practical every day vehicle. The Raptor is a high performance truck that also serves as a great daily driver, can go through the worst weather, is amazing off road, and can still tow and haul. In an ideal world you could have both. But one cannot serve the purpose of the other.

Sorry for the clickbait thread title. But hear me out....

Been knocking around the idea of getting a truck for some time now and could really do with something midsized but hate, hate, hate all the offerings there. Tacoma is from the Paleolithic era and underpowered, Ranger is 4-cylinder only and a decade old itself. Nissan, LoL. You get the idea. Which brings me to larger trucks, specifically in the F-150, Silverado, Ram 1500 category as I have no need for a heavy duty truck. Not that need dictates all of my buying decisions but there is no way I would enjoy putting up with all the compromises of and HD truck if I didn't need the capability it brings. So Raptors....

I've like it ever since it broke new ground back in 2010 but the 2nd Gen left me a bit cold. It was the turbo 6 powerplant. Can't get past it. This is not a debate on the merits of exhaust note or cylinder count, enough keystrokes have been expended there for sure.

In unrelated (but related) news, this week I had my name added to a dealer's Corvette Z06 list. I'm not going to get one of the 'first' cars and that is fine. What I am going to get is an MSRP deal, expected by the dealer, myself and most educated Corvette folks to be $89,990 for openers. I don't need to bore you with details but 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 that raves to 8600 rpm and all that. It is going to be my personal, final love letter to petrol before it is all over. A 'forever' car if you will, built to my spec (which will light on options, no crazy aero, carbon brakes or carbon wheels). The only way it could be better (aside from maybe being not so ugly) would be if it had a manual transmission. That's why there does exist the small chance I could jump ship to a Porsche Coxster GTS 4.0 with a manual. But the way Porsche dealers tend to play games with allocations, and price their cars, that is a slim possibility at best.

Anyway, this got me thinking about writing a check for $90K, what value for money it provides and whatnot. That got me thinking about the MSRPs I'm seeing for these Raptors (never mind those foolish enough to be paying ADM, LoL) of $80-83K.
Viewed through the lens of "COVID disruptions, chip shortages, free Biden bucks for my kids, etc" I'm sure you guys are justifying it to yourselves just fine. After all, look at the market. But when I think of what the C8 Z06 is, as an engineering feat, with its mid-engined architecture, DCT trans, removable roof, the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in history, etc, I can't help but kind of laugh at Raptor prices. At best, it's a breathed-on F-150 with a bespoke suspension, some frame bits and a tarted up 3.5. Please don't reply here and try to explain how it is 'basically' the engine from the Ford GT either. Because it's not. It is just terrible value for money in my opinion.

I understand that Z06s will doubtless run up to $140K with all the goodies (where, if you can get past the looks and brand image, it still is likely to represent good value). I also understand that I am getting a bit of in 'insider' deal at MSRP when some dealers have opened their lists at $50,000 over. I also understand that the Z06 is not a truck. I'm just trying to see what you guys think about the value for money a Raptor represents at $80,000+. It is based on the perennial best-selling vehicle in the U.S. with the ability to spread costs over hundreds of thousands of units after all. Anyone have thoughts to contribute beyond "Oh, you don't have a Raptor, ****"?

TL;DR: Raptors are a ripoff and I am going to buy a Corvette instead.
Summary for everyone: OP wants us to know:

A). He has lots of money to write a check for a vi@gra-mobile
B) He's cross shopping a Raptor against a Sports car
C) He had to come on here and tell a bunch of strangers of his options

I think it's all a bunch of sour grapes. It turned out that he can't afford a Raptor after all, so they suck. The vette thing is just posing. He can't afford one of those either. What blows my mind is that he thinks he can offend us with that sort of lame trolling. Instead, we're all laughing at him. I guess that didn't go well ....

You’re entitled to your opinion and to express it, but not necessarily on FRF and subject to time, place and manner restrictions. Doing so, however, opens you up to others potentially expressing their opinions which may be counter to yours.

Let’s focus on the value argument, because you have not substantiated the Raptor GT relationship or lack thereof regarding the power plant. What you’re neglecting to account for in your opinion is that like few other vehicles on the road or off the road in this case, the Raptor is greater than the sum of its parts in that it is balanced extremely well across the spectrum of power, stability, handling and durability and not skewed into any one performance ‘direction’. Anyone can throw a graphics package and expensive shocks on a truck. Ford went to the trouble testing the F150 and the Raptor well beyond what most users will do and make sure that these two will meed even the most demanding consumer expectations.

Unlike most of the responders, I also think that the Raptor is overpriced but that is colored by my previous vehicle buying. It is expensive for what you get, but so is the C8. Manufacturers also have to meet the DOT and EPA regs, and let’s not forget CA emissions we’re all paying the price for. In that light, I can understand the high MSRP of the Raptor, which likely came out of the engineering proposal more powerful, with different options available and they were whittled down to what can be sold in 50 states, meet the regs and still survive contact with the consumer. I may not agree with the Raptor MSRP, but I can understand it and ever time I am off road with the Raptor I am reminded why I spent the money and I have not once regretted spending that money. The downpayment I put on the Raptor was the biggest personal check I’ve ever written. Just like the tattoo says : “no regerts” ;-)

Respectfully, no, you’re not. The ‘clickbait’ title was an insult to every FRF member who has bought or is considering a Gen3.
You had other motivations for your post and the title and it was not honest, forthright debate. Had you been interested in a thoughtful or productive discussion, you’d have chosen better words and language. Instead, you chose another path.

TL;DR: Raptors are a ripoff and I am going to buy a Corvette instead.

TL;DR: you have exhibited childish, troll like behavior with your rude, insulting post and attempted condescension calling out ‘mouth breather spelling errors’ after failing to proofread your own post. Go forth and buy your C8 and do so with the certainty of your convictions.

@Big Blue : This discussion is a cl@wn show. can we get a lockdown or delete please?

What are you using the truck for? I live in Wyoming. I use this truck to it's full potential. I just beat up my gen 2 for 2 years, put 50k miles on it and traded it in for 5k less than I paid for it. That is a tremendous value. For what I got out of that truck it is UNDER valued

While I agree with your post, why cry to Big Blue to delete it? It’s entertaining. Go back to posting prius comments and getting your post count up in the welcome forum.
