Two new codes today. Idling at a light in traffic the engine dropped to 400-500rpm but didn’t die. Went into limp mode.

P0011

P0016
There is a service message for those DTCs, they can set due to sticking VCT solenoids. P0011 and P0016 are for Bank 1 Sensor A (passenger side intake cam). The procedure directs to cycle the affected solenoid 10 times with a jumper wire to free it up. If it still sticks it will need to be replaced.

Are the VCT solenoids located on the back side of the head, driver side? I found a diagram from a 2011 ecoboost but was unable to find a diagram for a newer version of the engine.

When you say cycle the solenoid with a jumper, I’m assuming you would use a ground signal to cycle the solenoid, is that correct?

They are on the front of each valve cover; 2 per side. Yes, a jumper wire to ground is the recommended way to cycle the solenoids.

There are a lot of possibilities, but with the extended crank before starting, it sounds like the fuel pump check valve may be allowing fuel to drain back from the lines.

You’ll need a compatible adapter for ForScan as well, they list them on their website.
Is there a way to verify the check valve is failing? I have the same symptoms on my truck with long crank on first start from sitting over an hour and two shops claim the fuel pump still shows pressure holding after truck is shut off and no bleed off.

My suspicion is they either are testing the wrong line or something is causing the pressure to show like it"s not bleeding off or it"s a different cause.

Only by monitoring bleed down with a scan tool or garage.
