GEN. 2 FORD RAPTOR OVER KILL OR JUST RIGHT ?

Lets face facts, this is a vehicle with 4 wheels to get you from point A to point B........thats literally it. This truck just gives you the options to do that on pavement, dirt, mud, sand, gravel in an efficient manner.


With that being said, I will never have this truck near a desert and I will never jump my truck.

I will always own a pickup truck forever because of my hobbies but this truck as a daily driver is amazing. I have never owned a pickup truck that rides this smooth and is this versatile, especially when dealing with logging trails and getting to ATV trails, mountains for snowboarding, shooting/hunting grounds or getting to a private lake that has some sketchy terrain.

Overall unless someone else creates a truck that rides this smooth and looks this good and possibly with a diesel engine then I would make the change but as of now I am sticking with the Raptor, especially since it holds it value so well.

I used to own the LX470 for 8 years, and I occasionally hunt. I would not be comfortable throwing the kill (deer, hogs) in the back of an SUV due to ticks and blood. Yes I can throw tarp all over the SUV's back, but it's definitely not as practical has throwing my kill on the truck bed, then hosing all the blood off when I get home.

Now only if I can get my Raptor to be as reliable as the Lexus....

Your raptor WILL NEVER be as reliable as a LX 570. Now as far as hunting goes, a cargo hauler works real good for hauling your deer out and you do not have to worry about getting blood inside of the LX 570. Now if you have a trailer you can always hook up the trailer and put the deer on the trailer. Although if you do not like having to worry about backing up with the trailer, the cargo haulers work real well for SUV'S during hunting season.[/QUOTE]

Yeah as I said, you cannot beat the practicality of a truck for hunting: No cargo hauler, trailers needed, etc.. BTW, I did see folks with cargo haulers damaging their hitch and hauler by bottoming out on some of the rough hunting trails here in TX.

In your case, I think you'd be better off with the F-150 Platinum or Limited (less "overkill"...)

What issues have you had with your 2019? I haven't had any issues yet with my 2017 currently @ 31K miles.

You are right. I am considering a platinum or limited, they are great trucks ! As far AS pickup trucks go I feel ford makes the best pickup trucks. Right now if I don't keep the raptor I will be getting either a LX 570, F 150 platinum, F 150 limited or king ranch, or a Ram 1500 limited.

I have had no issues, 2019 with 2650 miles. Runs fantastic, just over kill for living on the east coast.

Overkill?...
I live in southern California and have been doing desert recreation since 1969 when i rode my first dirt bike in Mojave...I've had several desert pre-runners and my 18' Raptor replaced my last pre-runner a 2004 Titan 2wd...I feel in love with the Raptor the first time I saw one and all I saw was a factory light duty pre-runner from the factory with all sorts of goodies. My last truck had thousands of off road miles including chasing the Baja 500 several years in a row for some Class 30/40 motorcycle racers..ran desert trips with other Titan owners and such. The Raptor has simply been out of my financial reach for a very long time...

Some things came together and now I was able to afford one and it was going out for fun like my other trucks..
Does the truck look bad ass?...yes, is it kind of an out of reach vehicle for some?...yes..But if it didn't perform as I needed all that stuff doesn't mean a thing to me...
I had no idea that only about 50% of Raptor owners didn't take their truck off road....It never occurred to me people would buy a truck like this because "its cool"...and not use it for some type of off roading...BUT that's simply me being naive....

Honestly, a stock raptor is underkill.

Better tires, more power, more suspension, then maybe you start getting there...

Edit: Them ore I think about it, this is a failure on the part of the owner, not the truck. you say its overkill because you live on the coast and only drive paved roads. Well, its your fault for not driving 2 hours and running some trails, or going to an offroad park or something. There is plenty of offroading in maine!!! Get out there and get some air under your tires!

A stock raptor is overkill, unless you are desert racing or a 18-25 year old kid, which each of those I am not. The raptor needs nothing except dedicated snow tires and maybe a better sounding exhaust.

I'm sure its actually much more than 50% of Raptor owners that don't take their truck off road.

It's probably more like 80 percent when you consider all the trophy trucks east of Colorado.
