Gen 1 (2012) making odd "clatter/rattle over rough pavement (video)

Thanks all for the suggestions, a lot of good ones. My mechanic and I will be putting it up on the lift, as he's doing the breaks. definitely will be looking at all of those possibilities, and everything else! Hopefully have at least a cause and then fix!

Maybe "coachhomer" is on to something. I have replaced everything in my front end with new OEM, including Deavers & RPG Shackles in the rear and even new OEM tires. And I still get the short sharp clunks on the smaller bumps in the road. I am pretty convinced it is still in the OEM 2.5 shocks and the way the valving is set up. I even tried a set of TSW 2.5 exchanges with all the soft-ride options along with some Eibach progressive springs and still had the clunk! So ended up with new OEM 2.5 and stock springs, and the clunk continued. I considered trying the 3.0 shocks but had heard that I would not like the ride, and since I hardly don't off-road, to not spend the money. Mine is a daily driver and I love the truck, so I have just resigned myself that it is what it is, but am very much open to suggestions!

Man, you covered the suspension bases for sure.

It's going in tomorrow, I'll post back when/if we have a cause(and solution). Mine sure sounds like something clattering against the exhaust or a loose plate/guard, or something. It seems too "tinny" for suspension, but who knows at this point. Hopefully, everyone will know by EOD tomo

Mine is my daily driver but I do take it off-road quite a bit, and pretty hard. Not comfortable doing that until this is resolved though.

They will find it. Glad you got a video of the sound. I had a similar rattle in my 02 F-250. Took it in to my mechanic and told him there was a rattle. He was an older guy. Mid 80s. He drove it and came back and said “son, the only rattle you got is in your head ain’t nothing wrong with that truck”. Found it a week later, a bolt was loose on the drivers side step. Those rattles can be frustrating.

Bizarre update, I’m in tucson so it’s obviously usually dry (and warm). It rained, and the sound appears to be diminished when wet(?!?).

My first thought was, well the wet pavement is just louder than dry, but paying closer attention it sure sounds like it is(significantly) quieter.

Will be interesting (and sanity restoring!!) what we find today.

Alright.... we found it!! It was a heatshield above the exhaust, near the CC that was broken and loose. He bent it up so it won't hit the exhaust for now and ordered a replacement. So YUP, was the exhaust and thankfully minor!

That said, admittedly I WAS kind of hoping it 'was' a bad shock or coil so I would have "had" to have put on 3.0's, haha. I'm kind of overly practical so would probably never do that on my own unless there was a serious need. Though my understanding is it's quite a difference offroad, which I do quite a bit and pretty hard.

Anyway, thanks again all for the suggestions, all of those were checked as well, suspension/shocks are still healthy.
