I have run 87 in my NA 2011 but it runs smother on 91+. As for the 2017 turbo I would run 91+ for sure. The only exception is at higher altitudes where often times you can't get 91. At altitude the lower octane acts more like higher as in 89 is like 91 it's not a big deal up there.

The turbos are going to negate any effects of altitude.

Correct. Both power loss and less knocking come from the same condition - lower air pressure. The turbo negates both issues. What I don't know is how sophisticated Ford is with their turbo/engine management, which would allow the engine to run well across different octanes. The last turbo I drove was a Saab with their trionic T7, which was amazing at that sort of stuff. From what I understand, a lot of that knowledge disappeared when GM sold off Saab and other companies are still struggling to reverse engineer it.

I would think that if your budget is too strained to afford Premium gasoline (91 or 93 octane, depending upon which gas station you find yourself at) at less than $3.00 per gallon in most places, you probably shouldn't be buying a Raptor. To each their own of course. I'll run the highest grade gasoline that's available at the pump I find myself at for no other reason than I'm putting in a RAPTOR. Doesn't matter if the performance gains are real or imaginary, you're putting it in a RAPTOR.

You don't pay for a First Class airline ticket, then choose to sit in the last row just to smell the toilets. Why would you buy a Raptor, then fill it with the cheapest gas money can buy ???

I live at high altitude and there is 85, 87, and 91 at pretty much every station. Also since we are at altitude there are a lot of mountain sports going on like sledding and four wheeling so its not uncommon to find 91 ethanol free.

I already have a turbo vehicle that requires 91 so thats what Im used to running.

I know things have changed for High altitude higher octane availability over the years. Last year I stopped a few places in CO in small towns that did not have above 89. Ethanol free is cool just don't tell Wilson I said that.
