Gas last night $100....pump shuts off. No big deal. Start 2nd fill..... less then 1/2 gallon

annoying as hell. $100 and $1.62 to fill up.

If I knew I was only a 1/2 gallon away from a full tank, i would have skipped the 2nd transaction.

normally, I fill up every few days whether i need it or not, just to keep the $100 fill ups away. but had no choice this time.

I never spend more than $17 for a fill-up! And that is here in California!

Sure I stop and get gas every 40 miles but who cares, it only costs me $17 to fill my Raptor!

ETA: BTW, if you pay by card, and use your card 2x at the same pump, check with the card provider that they didn’t freeze it. One of my Visa’s got disabled for exactly this.

yep. amex for 1st pass..... visa for second for the reasons you posted.

Wow, my Costco lets you go over $100 ($100.78) and that was 93 Octane on empty.

I heard this on the internet, its a safety feature, so unattended pumps shut down, and a smaller gas spill is avoided? If other safety features fail. Like some one driving off, forgetting he was filling up?

It used to be to limit financial liability. in times past, maybe still, but banks were putting a hold on $nnn when you swiped a card at a gas pump. So, when you’re on a bike and it only takes $20 to fill up with 93 octane and you find this mysterious entry on your online statement showing a weird entry for $50, $70, $100 or similar amount.
