Ethanol being alcohol eats everything plastic and rubber in the fuel system. Ethanol requires 1.5 times as much to generate the same fuel mileage as gasoline. It costs more in fuel to produce than it yields. If it were not for subsidies paid to plants to produce ethanol, they would not produce it. In general right now ethanol is a poor choice to replace petroleum for the foresaid reasons.... If you made more ethanol brought the price to below 1.00 per gallon and completely replace the fuel system in your vehicle, then yes ethanol makes sense.....

ethanol plants do not get subsidies anymore the big oil do to use it. we run e-30 in old car's and trucks as well as new non flex fuel. and in my 98 boat motor with no trouble. The truth is hidden. regular gas is just as hard on plastic and rubber or harder. every thing has a life span. dried distillers grain is the food so no ethanol dose not take away from food. actually ethanol is now a by product becos every one wants the ddg's

ice is talking more about E80-E100, ethanol on it's own is much more corrosive than gasoline, this is because it contains oxygen and likes to absorb water, add metal, and you have the perfect breeding grounds for rust, it also likes to eat away rubber, but E-30 has enough gasoline that it doesn't eat away at all the vehicle systems AS MUCH, remember that a lot of gasoline is already E-10 anyways
