The b&m 8.8 is quite deep. It’s was originally designed for the rear diffs. I tried to fit the ford performance on an 2006 f150 Harley edition but didn’t have the clearance with the steering rack… and there was more room than the raptor. I have the Spicer on the ‘17 raptor and modified the stock cover with a drain plug on my ‘14.
B&m 9.75 is money, have that on both trucks but might not play well with a 37” under the bed

The new 2023+ navigator/expedition/platinum f150 have no IWE. It appears they use a traditional FWD style hub and axle splined interface.

The OD is now smooth and absent of the splines for the IWE. Instead the ID is now splined

Now THAT is an iwe delete. Unfortunately I expect the bolt pattern will not work for my Gen 3 uprights.

Thanks Geoff for the awesome thread! I recently pulled the trigger on the ATI balancer mentioned earlier in the thread and figured I would try to add some value here. Attached are a few photos; one of the finished install and I also attached the part numbers for the belts that are required to run it. The ATI balancer is 4% overdriven from stock so I had to play with a few different belt sizes. I also discovered that if your Gen 2 3.5 has 112,000 miles like mine, the overdriven pulley makes the old accessories less than happy. I ended up replacing the water pump, decoupler pulley, idler pulley and tensioner with new Motorcraft parts. Also, another side note; on the Gen 2 stuff the crank isn’t keyed but the ATI balancer is. I was instructed by ATI to just throw a small dab of RTV in the empty keyway to prevent an oil leak. I hope this helps some of you guys looking to do the swap!

Also for Geoff,

After install I noticed a more pronounced hollow sounding knock coming from the engine at low RPM. Only happens in drive and only on very low speed light throttle. Part of me wants to says it is direct injection noise. With your experience with this balancer, did you notice anything like this? Also, any idea if ARP makes a crank bolt that will fit this engine? Is it the same size as the coyote bolt?

Thanks guys!
I also just bought the ATI balancer. Did you have a keyway machined into your crank? My engine is apart and the machine shop says they can’t do it. I didn’t know if I needed to take it somewhere else.

yeah but what axles are we expecting to use? Raptor axles engage with the IWE, not like this one does..

Hey man,

You do not HAVE to machine the key way into the crank. I called ATI and they told me if you are installing it without machining the crank, all you have to do is place a small spot of RTV to the opening to prevent an oil leak. After you plug the hole with RTV install the crank bolt and you’re good to go.

See my earlier post for part numbers on the belts. I would also highly recommend replacing the water pump and what not if your truck has high miles like mine did.

THIS IS IMPORTANT

You NEED the correct install tool for the Ecoboost balancer. Below is the one I just ordered that should work for the 3.5. I haven’t used it yet but I will soon and report back.

I hope this helps!

I would come up with something custom - the founder of driveshaftshop is a long time friend. He and I shared a booth at our first Sema show back in 1998! They are innovators with CV axles

Thanks for posting that installer up, definitely necessary tool for the crank pulley.. and don’t forget to use anti seize and Heat the hub of the crank pulley before installing .

For removal - the autozone $60 ‘duralast’ harmonic balancer puller with 90 degree tabs works really well. The same tool is sold online by ‘speedway’

When I had my new motor installed i had one put on. Thanks to the advice on here.
Glad the information was helpful! I am about to be doing an entire drivetrain in mine. Bought ALL the goodies from Geoff, building a transmission with Suncoast, and installing a brand new long block from Ford. Everything decided to fail at the same time so me and the wife went full ham on this thing. Lol

Ouch that sounds terrible for it all to go at the same time. But glad to see your wife is on board with everything. I just ask for forgiveness instead of permission. Haha
I have been building mine up for awhile now and my RMB Stage 2 with Headgames heads ported heads that I had in was never happy. Finally it shit the bed so I put a OEM long block in. Now my truck is running right, finally! Thanks to @GooseTuned We are datalogging 93 right now and then can swap over to full E85 and get that dialed in.
Hopefully I never have to do a transmission. Fingers crossed.
