I've found a couple places around here that actually post the limits. In both of those, it's $75 for all the major cards, but unlimited if you have their (Valero or Shell) card. That tells me it's got nothing to do with protecting against spills.

Most likely has to do with stolen CC and the thieves filling up their rides. It seems everyone I know who`s CC #`s were stolen all had fuel charges on them.

When you swipe the card initially it has to authorize the transaction for a specific dollar amount. Since you haven't pimped yet they don't know what the amount will be. Instead each gas station has a temp auth amount and a limit. Since they maybe only temp authed $1 they limit to $75 to limit the risk. There is a chance you only have $20 available credit. So they temp for 1 then let you pump for 75 and they don't get it too bad when the real amount is declined later with you long gone.

^^^^^^ what do you mean pretax....and writing it off really?

The Obama Administration...or perhaps it is congress, passed a temporary bill that allowed companies to depreciate equipment purchases 100% the first year on investments totaling I believe $120,000. It was part of a stimulus package and it ends this tax year.

I have an S-corp and both my partner and I purchased new pickups and will be writing them off. As an S-Corp we can own the vehicles in our own name versus in the company name. If you purchase an SUV only $25,000 can be written off...please consult your tax specialist for complete details...lol

I read the code section and I caught something my accountant did not. It stated that the truck bed must be 6 feet in length or greater. So, I also purchased the bed extender so the bed is well beyond 6 feet. Plus I am in the construction industry so it is a legitimate piece of equipment.

what's special about chevron or costco fuel?

Better additives imo, cleaner burning (chevron at least). Costcos probably better than Arco.

Shell had that whole overseas corrupt government support thing a few years ago so I protest them pretty much, even though I live across the street from one and no other gas stations.

Now that I have that 35 gallon tank, it may be worth the 4 extra miles and long line to stop at Costco for fuel. The prices are better. Hopefully they don't cut me off at 100 bucks.
