Reptar, you guys in NJ can`t pump your own gas anywhere in NJ?

Lol... nope its the law. The first time I was ever in Jersey and needed gas, I jumped out and tried to pump my gas, some crazy guy comes out yelling at me... I had no clue...

What are these dollar limits for you guys are talking about? The credit card companies will shut you off at those limits? I have never even heard of that, but then I've been out of the States for the last 4 years.

As far as I understand it is NOT a credit card controlled function but rather one at the vendor side. My CC will shut off at $75 on some pumps, $100 on others and still some have no limit. Same card, different limits which leads me to believe it is the vendor who controls the limits on purchase.

I have noticed that at pump stations where there are a lot of bigger vehicles, be they tractor trailers or ranch vehicles, there tends to be higher limits or they are gone all together.

My opinion is based solely on my experience at the pumps around the country, I don't work in that industry.

The same here, some stations cut me off at 75, others 100, and other 125. I think it has to do with demographics maybe. I get the higher limit near major highways, but the little neighborhood stations cut me off lower.

Again, just an observation.

I notice the stations that do this are the ones that only authorize $1 on card when you swipe it. Then it is a couple of days before full amount is processed.

I have a credit card that send me notifications on transactions. When I pump gas, there is a pre-authorization for $126.00 when I use any Chevron Station.

I still say it's to protect you and spills. like I said in older days and still in some small town you stick the nozzle in and go ********* with the neighbor. some times the nozzle would fall out spilling on the ground.
