df, this is a lost cause brother.

Guys who honestly think they will drive their 5700 lb 10 speed trucks at over 4000 rpm (when redline is only 6k) all the time and need every last HP, will argue till the cows come home about the merits of 93. One knuckle head even compared the Raptor to a Ferrari! lol

Guys like you and me who live in the real world and are not magazine racers will probably run 87. The Raptor is not the most expensive vehicle I own, and I certainly won't be acting fresh about my "ferrari"

You are right. Not worth debating these guys. I just dont understand why they get so angry if you dont use 91 octane. Its like they want everyone to justify what they feel is right. And comparing the Raptor to a Ferrari??? LOL

Why cant people just decide what is best for them?

I dont race my truck. I dont feel any difference in performance with 87 octane. I hear NO knocks or pings with 87. I dont tow heavy objects up steep hills in 100-degree weather like jabroni and I wont keep my truck past 60k miles or so. So FOR ME, it makes NO sense to use high octane. But like Ive said many times, to each his own. Too bad the high octane birthers dont feel that way.

I personally have no problem with anyone who runs 87. Hell, you can run windex in your tank if it gives you the feels you're after. But don't spread fake news. Premium gas is the recommended fuel because it gives better knock resistance and makes more power. There is no debate on this matter.

As pointed out a million times already, Ford designed the Raptor to run on 87 because they knew there are cheap people in this world and a few that live in areas where 91+ is not available. That has never been debated by anyone in this thread.

What bas been proven over and over again that there is a 10% difference in HP between 87 and 93 on the Raptor's high output engine. Yet there are several idiots here who think Ford's recommendation to put premium fuel in the Raptor is nothing more than a "marketing gimmick". Whatever the **** that means. Anyway, those of us that understand how engines work are dispelling that misinformation and calling out all the stupid statements made in this thread.

Yes you can run 87 in your truck. And yes there is a performance difference. And that performance difference is felt every time the truck is producing boost, not just above 4k RPM.

Idiots can be idiots and I don't really care. I'm just here to make sure other people don't fall for this nonsense.

No one cares if you run 87. What we care about is bad information being spread to others. An example of bad information is when idiots claim there's no difference between feeding your Raptor regular vs premium grade fuel in spite of the manufacturers recommendations and hard numbers from dyno pulls. We have two of those idiots in this thread currently giving each other reach arounds.

This motor is 450 hp from 3.5 liters. That equals 128.57hp/liter. And it’s boosted. That equals a high performance engine. No different then a 60’s muscle car with 12:1 compression. Both engines need high octane to prevent detonation. The 60’s muscle car could only depend on octane to prevent detonation. But today’s computer controlled motors can pull timing after it detects detonation to prevent further detonation and the eventual hole in the piston or blown out ring land.

I personally would rather have higher octane and less detonation to start with. Again.........this is a high performance engine.

I see no one addresses that 87 is the dirtiest , most deposit leaving fuel u can buy. That alone would convince me to not use it in the ticking time bomb that is the EB ;0. 87 leaves way more junk on your valves etc. A buddy works at the refinery and has seen the test motors they use and he runs 91 just based on the crap 87 leaves behind. Now if you dont keep your trucks very long or you have the extended warranty than run 87, if you dare ......

This really depends on the brand more than the octane. Shell and chevron do add more additives to their premium gas, but most just meet the government requirements which are actually pretty good. There are plenty of vehicles out there running 87 for over 200000 with zero issues with build up.

This is a super entertaining thread.

I normally run 91, but on long highway trips on cruise control I figured it would be smarter to go econo and try a tank of 87. Lo and behold it felt fine and I averaged over 19 mpg on a 2,000 mile trip. Then I got home and filled up with 91 again because I'll be towing my boat. Best of both worlds.
