Unless maybe your in a ‘20 it would need to be done. As stated above it’s preventative and puts an extended warranty on phaser repair. It’s even listed as a recall in FordPass and you should have received documentation about it by mail. Maybe your dealer needs to see it in black and white. Have them lookup the recall number or scan and email that letter to them.
I'm in a '20 and had it done per the recall notice, should be for all of the 3.5 HO Raptor's from what I've read regardless of year.
According to @FordTechOne the ‘20s did receive the latest revision of the parts used to correct the problem. I can only gather they didn’t get the latest code? Honestly there has been several revisions it seems until they finally manages to correct the problem, regarding parts and the latest code.
At this point I've stopped trying to understand how ford disseminates this information, I have a late MY2020 build, my VIN was registered for the recall/reprogram, so I did it accordingly. Being issued the recall by letter, by FordPass, and under my VIN at the dealer would contradict FordTechOne's guidance if that's really the case. But I am not interpreting any of this myself, I simply followed the procedures issued to me by the recall.
The new phaser design went into production 11/19, but the new calibration was not available until July 2021. So if late build 2020s are getting the recall notice, it appears they’re applying the update to all vehicles regardless of build date.
Except for @MtnPat ’s degenerate dealership… time to find a competent one. It’s a recall, it’s not preventative maintenance. They did it on mine without even asking. How lazy can a place be?
