Yup. The 09-14 system (and up) is nortorious for NOT engaging when needed. It eats itself.I think that damage occurs when you have a slow leak on 1 side. That causes one hub to partially engage and chew up the splines since the vacuum level changes when turning. At that point, the safest choice is to just switch to 4wd and fix it later. Replacing the IWE is not fun.
Not sure how Gumby has never heard of that. It's extremely common and is the number one problem with Ford F150s 4WD trucks for the last 20 years.
