The proper term for cutting someone off is break break break... Then transmit. When I say shenanigans you have to realize we are on an official military watch. There is a limit. The only issue with different types of radios is some will over power you. That's why control has to have the best radio. If you have a handheld and I'm asking when's dinner on my in truck unit, you won't be able to talk over me.

UNODIR (until otherwise directed) is implied.

And the more powerful unit means you have something mounted in your truck that you might use a couple times a year.

I do have it mounted in my truck but you have to remember what I have to do. About 4 preruns a year. 3-4 events a year then random other side things as well.

But the radio doesn't need to be mounted. You could put it in the center counsel and run the antenna outside.

I also have a few handhelds as well though for when i'm not in the truck.

to add to that, the only thing that stays in my truck is the cradle/mount which is bolted to the rear wall of the center console. Everything else comes out when not in use.

What he said. There are plenty of ways of putting a mobile radio in our trucks with out making it permanent. The only thing you have to do is run direct power from the battery. Its not hard to do.
