Im almost thinking it might be best if I didn't have a radio... Nobody wants 3 days of my shenanigans on the radio lol.

LOL Trust me its going to be nearly impossible to top Kevin and Dustin from MN.

The Wouxun is a great radio, just be sure to get the accessories I mentioned previously....

Required:

Magnetic Roof Mount Antenna $39.99
Handheld Mic (The economy one is perfect) $16.99

Optional, but good to have:

Battery eliminator cigarette lighter adapter $14.99

Wouxun Hand Held Radios - GMRS, VHF & Ham Radio Kits | Powerwerx

You are now quickly approaching the cost of the mobile rig with this radio.

With less power. Significantly less. About 11dB less

How come its required?

Let me clarify:

The accessories are Not required by GLRE for the run, but "required" if you want to get the most out of the radio.

Reception will be greatly improved with the antenna, and when your in the shit and trying to drive...its a lot easier to use the hand mic than dealing with holding the radio.

I also edited by post from "required" to Highly Suggested, to avoid any confusion.

Thanks.

I don't want to mount anything in the truck. I drive it a lot but won't be doing a lot of runs (because there aren't many close enough). The Wouxun was what I had in mind.

Wait till RW and I move to the south east, there will
be a run coming soon to a state near you!

Yea they might have me beat then... I don't dress the part. That level of dedication is well beyond me.

Biggest come away was the trails there are extremely tight for Raptors. Kyle said with all of the rain the forest is really growing back into the trails. I had to have my co-pilot get out and hold back fallen saplings at some tight turns. The depth of water also made it tough to choose best track. Crushed one edge of an under carriage crossmember which is no big deal but it was right next to muffler pipe and could have cost me.

JPO and I hit the trails at Rausch on Saturday along with JK Freaks (jeeps) who were having an event. Both Verizon and ATT had decent signal whenever the copilots checked during our run. Utilized the MoitonX HD to track our progress and it worked fine.

Spoke with Kyle and they have already started working on the trails for our Havoc event - meaning no Baja track until then.

Used a Ram Mount to secure my Pentax Optio WG2 to the rearview mirror and was extremely pleased with the stability and lack of shake even when bouncing over submerged rocks on the trails. After recent storms, a good 40% of trails were under water. YouTube links below. I was shocked to see the front of the truck bouncing up and down but camera seems not to move giving great perspective. Honestly that must be mostly due to Pentax anti-shake but I don't remember setting that.

Looked more like jeep trails than Raptor trails.

I was definitely thinking that especially when we hit a 4' berm that pointed me to the sky and almost hung me up with all 4 wheels dangling in the air. The long travel of the wheels saved me as I punched it before that happened and scraped over the top. Didn't have video running at that point cause card had just filled up.

For perspective of the Rock'n'Roll check out the handheld video from JPO's copilot.

Love it! Actually, trails are so full of large rocks there was no way to "blast through".

Makes me wonder if we're looking at more of a raptor walk than a raptor run.

Real tight.

definately want to attend. our first event and finally one that's in reach from rhode island
can anyone tell me what type of helmet is required?
also is it acceptable for the spare be anchored in the bed with ratchet tie downs
2010 6.2 super cab, black on black

From Kyle's comments about reworking the NE section of the park this will not be the water over boulder type of jeep track I did on Saturday. It will be built to focus on what Raptors do best, as Kanakry referenced.

BTW-they will be GPS'ing the course, prior to, so we will have electronic versions for those with off road NAV systems.

I want to be clear that we have 3 different closed course routes for the weekend that I have designed with Kyle's help specifically for the event and they are grooming the courses to suite our needs. They will not be jeep trails and we aren't just going to go run the baja course for a few days. The baja course is roughly 2.5 miles long while the Havoc courses are 16-18 miles long respectively and should take the fastest trucks roughly 30min to complete the day 2 course & the course incorporates everything from flat out speed areas to some areas of increasing difficulty and very low speeds. This is by design to maintain overall truck pace as well as keep the course challenging.

Are they going to have a paved section for all the Street Queens?:specialed:

:anitoof: NO paved section

Actually, there is technically a black top section being utilized on both Friday & Saturday.
