I like this set up from Wiz. I have been meaning to do this on a couple other trucks of mine. Not having Nav and being to cheap to pay for Sirius, this might be an option for me.

I have some handheld FRS radios I use hunting. They work well but I want more range.

I don't want one mounted. I've had a handheld CB and a mounted one before. The mounted had better range, but not enough for me to want one in the truck. Not for the limited highway driving I do.

I'm running the TYT9000 as are quite few others who have participated in our events.
Here's how I have mine mounted:

It's mounted with the supplied bracket and I used some short self drilling screws to attach it to the back wall of the center console storage compartment. When not in use I can pull the entire thing by loosening the side screws and lifting it off the mount (the stock mount is slotted) or just remove the handset & antenna cord leaving the radio in place.

There was a thread for a group buy of handhelds. I think the non group buy price was $68 if I'm not mistaken. Programmable VHF and handheld. Nothing fancy but they work.
