Honestly it probably has more to do with fmc using the same hardware across a wide variety of vehicles for cost savings but only Activating certain features on higher end vehicle to give customers a sense that their money went somewhere...

And the cynic in me has to wonder if keeping the folding cycles down will reduce warranty work in the future that Ford would have to take care of on their dime.
