Ford seems to be especially inept in so many ways. How poorly they managed the allocations of not only the Raptor and Bronco, but even other vehicles. BMW managed to take steps to allow them to be in a position to manage the chip issues... they are up 20% in production at their SC plant over pre-covid!

Surely, if other manufacturers are managing it far better than Ford it comes down to poor upper-management decisions. I feel for the employees that are going it now be hit by lost shifts dye to their plant output cuts, the dealerships that have nothing to sell, and of course us... depending on delivery of new vehicles... all SOL.
There are so many differences between manufacturers, comparing BMW to Ford is apples to orannges, different parts, different chips, different suppliers.
It all depends on the chips, parts, supppliers they have done business with forever. If BMW had a supplier dedicated to them for years, then of course that's not going to change much during a pandemic.
That said, it all circles back to greed and satisfying investors. You can't make profits by planning and spending for every emergency that can possibly come years in the future.
Musk has his own chips designed by a design center and he happened to have ordered insane numbers of chips years in advance, because he sees numbers much bigger than realy, among other tings. However, he is still affected by other supply chain issues.
When companies start using AI to manage these things, everything will get better for them, in the beginning, and then once everyone is using AI, it will become more skewed again.
