So after going to a second dealership, contacting cust service and reopening my case, and submitting a more detailed second claim Ford has agreed to fix the problem. This will be completed under warranty. Thank all of you for speaking up and helping this become more vocal... Sometimes that is necessary.
Albeit gel coat and not paint, but I've witnessed cracking nearly identical to that in a previous boat I owned after slamming a fiberglass floor hatch on a shore power cord.
Maybe the guy at the dealer who does new vehicle prep did it.
Either way, that sucks and good luck.
Well, got the truck back from repair yesterday.
I spoke with the manager about the damage found, and turns out I was exactly right. The damage came "most Likely" during assembly or final adjustment phase. The spot that had chipped away was the external damage. Underneath the paint there was a crack that had been creeping and extending. This caused the the paint to crack in other areas. The aft bottom fender bolt by the door on the bottom had tooling marks on the paint prior to repair, and made it apparent that the fender had been adjusted at some point. The paint on the right side bolt is unmarked. It looks as if someone may have used a body spoon to pry on the fender to realign it during final checks. These are all educated assumptions, and I have no proof of it, but it makes sense.
Bottom line Ford did fix it under warranty, but I still feel that it took WAY TOO MUCH EFFORT on my part to have this done. This should have been an easy decision by Ford, and the undue stress it caused still irritates me. I do not have a NEW truck with an undamaged fender. I have a new truck that was damaged, and has a repaired fender. I do not believe that I will ever have a problem in that area again, but it still is a frustrating end result.
Thank you all again for your time and comments, and I still am and will probabaly forever be a Ford supporter, but now I know what the direction of their company is moving towards.
