While radios are mandatory for most events and handhelds are acceptable per the rules I highly suggest the use of a Mobile Radio in the 50-60w range.

Knowing full well, of course, that the FCC restricts the MURS bands to 2 watts, and only on MURS specific radios. You know, in case the NSA is watching.
