I really like my sure fire e2d defender. 200 lumens and you can smash someone's face with the bezel.

:ROFLJest: !!!

Always a good secondary use!!!

I keep a Mag light 3D Cree in the truck for that too!!! :peace:

I have one like this in Front and in back 12 Volt acc source. The MicroPOD is a durable, rechargeable, "Clip & Aim" Technicians Flashlight
The little guy is awesome , the run time and amount of lumens is hard to believe . It also has a blue night light when it is charging that looks like a security system. Front and back in my case . The night light can be turned off. I have had no problems with it draining the Truck battery even after a few weeks without starting . The first pic is of the light output of this tiny guy in a completely blacked out hallway. Sorry about the blur.

For anything like border patrol stuff I have a fist full of sun AKA 75 watt HID flashlight. I picked this up off eBay. Seen similar ones on the web for well over a 1000 for Police and Survival fanatics.
This looks like the same one . Note the prices have come way down recently. I paid $250.00 , but I did get an extra battery.

Black Smart 75W HID Xenon 7500 Lumen Torch Flashlight | eBay

This thing really is a fist full of Sun , it is almost dangerous. It does get hot . It comes with a car charger , due to the size of the battery and it being a lipo it can take a long time to charge.

Sorry about the rushed post.

Very helpful information so far. I think I'm still leaning towards the Strion (but not totally), since it fits all of my criteria:

  • Small
  • Rechargeable from a cradle I can install in the truck console
  • Bright (enough)

Think some sort of 3M double sided sticky would be strong enough to hold it and allow me to unclip it without pulling the cradle along with it? I'm trying to avoid drilling if possible.

I think that stuff you use to hang stuff on the wall from 3M would work the pull to remove

That's what I was thinking. I guess if it doesn't, I can just try something else. I wish I could tell if the back of that Strion charger was flat or hollowed out (spot to place the adhesive).

If you 4 wheel alot, I have found that the 3m tape does not hold up over time. If you are mainly on the street then it will probably last a long time, Just my opinion....

Strion LED

Decided to go with the Strion LED. Mounted it with some 3M hanger stuff. Seems to work great so far. I'll probably throw a 12v splitter in there and make the wires more tidy once I have two hands again. Left is still in a cast from surgery, making any precision pretty impossible.
