GEN 2 Fitting the Mobile Toys behind the seat sub

Smurfslayer - Thank you for leading the way on this. A quick, stupid clarification request if you will:

I don't believe there is an amp inside the MTI enclosure, so I'm guessing that you are using whatever sub amp you originally got to power the 8" Kicker that you had previously. Can you please confirm? And, if so, what is that amp and where did you mount it?

Confirmed. Kenwood 300w x1.
I have purchased but not installed a JL RD500x1 to push the JL sub in the MTI box. Even with the 300w amp the sound is quite good. The kenwood, and eventually the JL to replace it are mounted in close proximity to the factory Sony amp behind the drivers side rear seat. I’m hoping I can keep close to this kind of configuration so I can maintain what little behind the seat storage I have left.

Thinking about going this route instead of the 8" Kicker install. Did you consider the $100 amp mount that MTI sells as well? Have you installed the JL amp yet - any pics? Thanks!

No, and No. Respectively. I hadn’t considered the mount but probably should have. Still getting all the parts for the next time I tear into the truck. I think I have them all and will confirm with parts list, then try to map out what I’ll do and in what order. Next time in, I amp the speakers; home runs for the JL amp, replace the tweets and front doors with components so I can use a 4x amp to about 40-45w rms; disconnect the faux center channel, run an RF DSR1, connect and fingers crossed.

before all this gets done, I need to mock up where the amps go, and figure my mounting out.

Thanks. I am interfacing with Jim at MTI right now and he highly recommends the amp mounting plate in addition to an LC2I audio controller. He said that if you do not have that in place, that bass rolloff would occur with the Sony system. Waiting on a final quote now for the 10" single enclosure.

Thanks. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the single sub enclosure, amp mount, and wiring kit. Also found the JL RD500/1 amp for $239 shipped and picked up the bass control knob. Have you found any instructions on which wires to tap into or do you know since you've already installed the Kenwood? I get the ground and tapping into the power inverter for power.

what i have found is all the bass roll off you speak about happens inside the sony amp. So doing a high level grab from any speaker is just not good enough. You then require another dsp to artificially put back sound that was taken away. It will never sound as good as it can.

When you do the NAv TV A2B module, you get a full spectrum of signal that has zero dsp or compensation done to it. It is as clean as can be.

But, i do recognize the price to play gets steep. The trade offs are huge.

check the f150 link; I had to look pretty hard at the pictures they provided to be sure I got the right wires.

Received my single 10" JL enclosure from MTI Acoustics and had everything installed this week. The install included their amp mounting plate, JL Audio RD 500/1, JL RBC-1 Bass knob, LC2i, M.E.S.A damping mat, and Stinger 4ga amp wiring kit. Didn't have the time to install it starting a new job, so I paid $250 to have it installed locally. I'll plan to later upgrade the door speakers (already swapped the center speaker), but it sounds phenomenal!!!!! It gave the entire sound system new life and I highly recommend MTI Acoustics.

I have to get off my duff and start paying attention to the rest of the system now. I think I’ve amassed the components, but the time to set aside for this is not insignificant for me. I have to run the 4 gauge for the sub amp, probably one of the bigger time investments, door panels and components up front, mount the tweeters, get the DSP and amp wired in. I wish I could slip someone two fiddy to tidy things up for the remaining work on my tunes...
