First Oil Change Oil Loss

Hello,

Just did my first oil change at 6,329 miles. I got out about 4.5 qts of used oil.

I had the truck on a level surface.
I replaced oil filter as well.
Filled it with 6 qts.

I've never done a first oil change before. It would make sense if some of the oil burned off or got absorbed into the dry machine parts.

I was wondering if anybody else experienced the same. Is 25% oil consumption from factory to first change @ 6k an expected amount?

This one is tough to get all the oil out. Being level hurts your chance to get all of it out. Make sure you refill to the TOP of the hashed "full" mark on dipstick.

Don't forget some oil in filter. Did you check dip stick oil level before you changed?

Unfortunately I did not check before changing the oil. I realize now that next time I'll check the vehicle in the initial stages.

I think it would be wise to check your oil level more frequently - say every 1,000 miles.

It amazes me how people just won't do the simplest of vehicle checks!

I'm at 5k and my dipstick still still shows full. A nice golden color too.

Any forced induction will burn oil. I'd never go more than 5-7500k with these trucks without changing the oil.
