At long last I finally got to drive my Raptor! After ordering the truck almost a year ago while I was overseas, the truck was delivered in Nov. '10 a couple days after I was again deployed. I came home a few days ago and the Raptor is everything I expected and more!
After putting a couple hundred miles on it on I-10 and around town it was time to get it dirty! We decided to drive to Crown King to see the snow and grab some lunch. From Phoenix there are two ways to get to Crown King, the hard way and the even harder way! The harder way is to take the road/trail north from Lake Pleasant. This route is about 30 miles and can take 4 to 6 hours of very technical driving. The other route goes through Bumble Bee, AZ and involves about 30 miles of bad road form the I-17. We took the "easy" route due to time and because I wanted to open the truck up a little.
It's important to note that I had my wife with me. She, like most wives, has more sense than her significant other and has no problem demanding that I slow down if she feels uncomfortable or afraid for her life! Even hitting speeds of up to 65 MPH on this not-too-well maintained road, she never pulled rank on me! At speed the truck is so stable and comfortable we didn't even realize how fast we were flying over the bumps. Breaking and cornering was always completely under control. Outstanding! For the record, we averaged about 40 MPH in 4HI, Off-Road mode=ON, E-locker open (unlocked).
