Your springs carry the weight not your shocks. Don’t have to take my word for it, look at the multiple threads on deavers and nobody is complaining about an overly stiff ride from the HD set up.

950lb tongue weight is a lot for any half ton truck as well as 9000 lbs is a lot to tow with a Raptor. Better upgrade those brakes!;)

This is true, but I look at my setup as a preload adjustment more than a shock. This literally just compensates and makes up for the additional weight I’ve added.

I think the whole point of the setup featured in this thread is that you have the option to have an improved tow setup as well as retaining the ability to go completely stock relatively easily. For someone who is towing to the desert to then run dunes, like the OP, it’s the best solution. Any Deavers or anything else will compromise the ride when unloaded, but it’s going to depend on who are you whether it’s that big a deal.

Yes, this was the point. I wanted something that wasn’t “in the way”, could be removed and essentially convert the truck back to being able to do what it was intended for. This works perfectly for me. And yes I did add the deavers and man did that make a difference in ride quality. The combination is really the fantastic.

Nice work! This is exactly the type of set up I am looking for except in a first gen model. I soon will be occasionally towing a 9000lb trailer and was searching for a better solution other than airbags, spring helpers or bump stop kits. I'm in Sacramento as well. Would you mind PMing me the shop information? Id like to give them a shout and see if they would be able to create the same for my gen 1. Thanks

Edit:

Nevermind I found his contact information. Thanks

In the assist shock setup featured in this thread the shocks carry the preload along with the springs. I feel like we're circling the same discussion here. You keep implying that Deavers are a solution to the problem posted here and if they are awesome, but if not then it needs to be plainly stated. I do not see how HD Deavers on their own can possibly be a solution for this problem (towing with heavy tongue weight without sag). And if you start adding adjustable bump stops the price is now shooting up.

I think the solution presented here is great. Deavers might be a nice addition, but if I had to choose one there's not much of a choice.

Something that should be clarified here is that a bump stop solution will ride like total $#it. A bump stop is made to be a failsafe and has very little travel. Imagine what that would be like if you just put it higher. Trust me, this is the road I was going down and luckily never did. With this setup I don’t lose any wheel-travel so I can literally leave this on, take some pressure out of the shocks and still take it offroad if I wanted to.

Here’s a picture that will give everyone an idea as to how my truck would sit WITHOUT the additional airshocks (bottom pic), then how it sits WITH them (top pic). This is also without the weight distribution bars or the deavers. That’s just stock.

Remember, trailer weighs 6,000 lbs loaded and has a tongue weight of 760 lbs. I carry about 350 lbs of gear in the bed of the truck.

I have deaver + 3's in my truck. I tow a toy hauler with a 800lbs tongue weight with it while using a blue ox sway pro hitch. No issues here. I never even get close to my hydro bumps.

The raptor is rated for 800lb tongue weight, I believe.

The super crew cab does 800.

2017 Ford Raptor Super Crew Cab

Maximum payload weight: 1,200 lbs

Maximum trailer weight: 8,000 lbs (with a weight distributing hitch, see table below).

GCWR: 14,250 lbs

What does this mean in the real world? If you have a 2017 Raptor Super Crew, and you are towing an 8,000 lbs trailer (with 800 lbs of tongue weight), then you can add up to 400 lbs of weight (people and/or cargo). All together, truck + trailer + people + cargo cannot exceed the GCWR, which is 14,250 lbs for the Raptor crew cab.
