This is an easy one for me: I have a signed order invoice and a ford confirmation letter. I agreed to pay 5k over invoice as there were no other options in my area, everything else was 10 to 20k over invoice. I have never in my entire life ever paid msrp let alone a ADM.
Soooooo, if they hit me with a price increase of even $1, they can either take it out of the ADM or refund my deposit! This is becoming increasingly ridiculous!!!
At some point people have to push back, and if enough people do then the manufacturers will have to respond.
I went to the boat show in January of 18’ and noticed that almost every boat there was advertised as being on sale at more than msrp. I questioned that on several models and was told that I could take it or leave it because someone else would buy it. (Sound familiar???) So I walked away.
Fast forward to May of 18’ my wife and I were out looking on a Sunday and was close to one of the dealers who told me to take it or leave, we stopped in and I recognized the owner from the boat show and we started to discuss the exact same boat that I wanted at the boat show and he still had it and it was down to msrp as opposed to the 10k ADM. After less than 45 minutes of looking and negotiating I got that boat at 20k off of msrp and 15% off all accessories.
The only way this stops is if we take a stand. I want another Raptor but I don’t need another Raptor.
It sounds like you agreed to pay over MSRP, not 5k over invoice. Even if the truck sold at invoice, the stealership still makes money on the sale. In Jen Too era, someone broke down the issue on youtube and IIRC, an MSRP sale on an 802a Raptor - equivalent package of the Jen Tres 801a, was around $9k profit. At invoice something like 2500-3500(?).
So I guess the line in the financial sand is different for everyone. I’m a firm believer that MSRP is too much and the Raptor / RMAX 1k are the only 2 vehicles I’ve bought without any downward negotiation; The Rap I got at MSRP the ‘max I got a few hundred off of prep fees, etc. Hell, I bought one of the first Ducati 1198s in ’09, and even that was negotiated down.
Paying over MSRP is not financially smart and artificially inflates the market place.
The good news is that by summer, Jen Tres buyers who made mistakes, have buyer’s remorse, etc. will be dumping them on the used market and - news flash: While the Raptor holds value well, it doesn’t hold 5-15k worth of ADM. The current market is a bit kooky and hopefully the market comes to its senses soon.
