Ford knows there is little to no load on the engine in the brief moment when it changes gears. I bet you’re engine 7-8k when you hit the shifter. Ask the tech weather they cover it or not.
What, you don’t have an engine brake. In between shifts there is a moment of free wheeling or no/low engine load. A lot of engines blow up during a shift. Over speed is normally regulated by ignition. So his engine went to protection mode not firing to hold rpm’s down, he shifted while the protection was active causing a huge drop in RPM, then the protection disengaged and began firing causing a rush of fuel rich exhaust to the turbos probably putting them in surge and a BOV launched. I am like the others, engine is fine, turbo probably not or will fail soon.It doesnt matter; you can not over rev these engines
1k miles to break in seems plenty, or am I crazy? TRX is 500 miles for break in and that has arguably greater driveline stress. Why can't we just admit that his truck shouldn't have had an issue under those conditions rather than blame the owner? Doesn't make the Raptor a bad truck- this is what the warranty is for and dealer will fix it.

@FordTechOne Can you give us some advice for proper break in on the 3.5l? I'm going to have to drive mine 3000 miles from east coast to west coast when it's finally built and delivered. I'm not sure if an immediate cross-country trip is the best break in for a new engine? I've read not to use the cruise control because you would want a fluctuation in RPM's for a break in, but is that really true? It would be nice driving 3000 miles to use the adaptive cruise control and not have to worry about which route across the country I take since hills and mountain climbs may not be good for break in? Thanks in advance everyone. This is my first turbo vehicle.Not likely. Sounds more like there was a factory defect, and when you ran it hard the issue was exposed. I agree with @jamanrr it almost sounds like a charge air cooler hose is blowing off under boost; that will cause a sudden loss and power and a hissing noise. The engine will also over fuel due to the loss of airflow, which will result in white smoke. I don’t think you’ll have any warranty issues being that the truck is stock and (assuming) shows no signs of abuse. Keep us posted on how things go.

Could care less about the TRX. It takes up zero percent of my time. So go wave your TRX hardon somewhere else.
