I have a 2019 raptor with 43k miles on it. Always had issues with burning excessive oil. First clue was low oil pressure warnings followed by limp mode (weak throttle response). Dealer checked it out and told me there’s no rhyme or reason, these trucks just burn through oil. Now I know to put 2 quarts in every 4-6 weeks and haven’t had a problem since with the low oil pressure. I am now having issues with weak throttle, check engine light comes and goes but no other warnings. This issue started while getting up to speed on an on-ramp. I was at about 25-30% acceleration and lost all juice in the throttle. I laid off the gas, got back on it and had some power back but weak throttle issues started. Some days it has weak throttle throughout the drive, some days it starts normal then half way through the ride you lose normal throttle. Truck has a hard sputter at idle on occasion since this weak throttle problem started which seems to be getting progressively worse. I called service when it started last week and nearest appointment was this Friday so just trying to make it till then. The alert on my ford pass app says possible improper oil usage or service but I haven’t changed oil brand in over 2 years and just had full oil change/service in late April plus added 2 quarts the day after this started. Any similar issues out there let me know

Did you buy the truck new or have service records for all oil changes if purchased used? There are 2 service bulletins for oil consumption. The first is a valve cover issue on vehicles built before a specific date. The second is a PCM recalibration to prevent oil from bypassing the rings under engine braking. However, neither can fix an issue that is caused by lack of maintenance. What is the truck’s build date?

I bought it new in 2019 and i have all service records since purchase. It looks like my dealer did an oil consumption test back in 5/2020 but i have to look back and see if we ever did either of those 2 service bulletins you mentioned for the consumption issue. Trucks build date is 03/2019. I am fairly religious with maintenance and the Ford dealer are the only ones to touch the truck. Do you think the consumption issues are related to the recent weak throttle/ engine stutter? Appreciate your feedback.

I would start by addressing the oil consumption issue first; ingesting engine oil can negatively affect engine performance. TSB 20-2423 applies; it has the dealer update the PCM calibration and replace the valve covers as necessary. Since your truck was built before the cutoff of 4/1/19, you have the suspect valve covers that can cause excessive oil consumption due to the integral PCV system.

Does that supersede TSB20-2132? I'll check with my dealer when i get in there Friday morning. From looking at my service records they indicated on my oil consumption test follow up visit "Verify oil level, no further concerns since TSB20-2132 performed". So sounds like they did the PCM update?

TSB 20-2132 was updated and no longer includes the High Output engine (Raptor & Limited). TSB 20-2423 was released specifically for the High Output engines. However, if they performed 20-2132 and replaced the valve covers, that should have resolved the PCV oil consumption issue. 20-2423 includes the calibration update to prevent oil consumption under deceleration. If you had recall 21B10 performed, you already have the latest calibration.

With the check engine light being on, the dealer should be able to diagnose the engine performance issue

The dealer service department was wrong to dismiss your oil consumption claims and likely did not want to engage in a prolonged repair for which they foresaw possibly exceeding what Ford would reimburse them for.

In addition to the assistance @FordTechOne has offered, you should make it abundantly clear to the service department that you disagree that “these trucks just use oil” and that you do not believe your concerns have been adequately addressed. It sounds like this issue may have cascaded into bigger issues from the oil consumption problem.

I have a 2020 with 32k. Drive spirited pretty much everywhere and have to add no oil between 5k oil changes. This isn’t the 50’s. @FordTechOne, at risk of sounding naive, how can any significant “consumption” be deemed normal in a modern engine DESIGNED for the road?

I just called the service department to confirm neither the valve covers had been replaced nor the PCM recalibration completed which he did confirm, neither were done. Based on the feedback, I'm going to push for another oil consumption test in addition to running the codes associated with the current check engine light. It feels like a fuel issue just because of the heavy stutter and reduced RPM's whenever I come to a stop sign or red light. The stutter goes away while driving at higher RPM's but power is significantly reduced.

Well, that explains why you’re still experiencing oil consumption. Per 20-2132, the dealer was supposed to change the oil, mark the dipstick at the 1 quart low mark, and have the customer check the oil every 200 miles. If 1 quart is consumed with 3,000 miles, they were to replace the valve covers. Is recall 21B10 still open on your truck?
