I don't know, I've driven both back to back and I really think that my truck (stock) would edge out a new EB F-150. Definitely if you hook some weight to it or dump some in the bed with larger tires making even more of a change.

I like the growl of my big V8.

a favorite quote of mine is "the best 2 sounds in the world are a growling V-8 and a moaning woman."

both seems to get me going :waytogo:

spooling turbos is a hard sound to beat as well! Don't dis the 3.5 EB till you drive one. I test drove the full 2011 lineup at the ford drive event last year, and was floored by the 3.5 EB. It would handle the added weight of a Raptor just fine, it's got an even better torque curve than the 6.2, and torque is what gets the weight moving. Towing 6500 lbs around the course at the drive event, the 3.5 EB felt 100x's better than my supercharged 5.4 towing 6500 lbs.

As for offroading, guess anyone knocking the 3.5's durability or off road capability hasn't seen the ford torture test videos.

I've seen the vids and I've read all the glorious posts about the ecoboost. I agree it is a stout engine, no doubt about it. The problem is that NONE of the ecoboost trucks weigh as much as the Raptor so an apples to apples comparison isn't possible.

2011 f150 supercrew fx2 = 5245lbs
2011 f150 supercrew fx4 = 5577lbs
2011 fi50 harley supercrew 4x4 = 6052lbs

This topic has been discussed over and over again. I love the idea of 20+ mpgs without sacrificing power, the problem is the Raptor is shaped like a brick and weighs 6k lbs.

Anyone who thinks that 500lbs won't make a difference in terms of performance and mpg's is delusional.

Before the argument starts about upping the boost... at most you'll get ~625hp before you need to be thinking about forged pistons.

With milled/ported heads and a good set of cams the 6.2 will easily have 600+ hp and won't need anything done to the bottom end.

"Although the EcoBoost's crank is forged, its direct-injection system and precise engine management computer enable using less exotic powdered metal rods and hypereutectic pistons. The lower thermal expansion rate of the hypereutectic pistons allow running tighter piston-to-wall clearance for reduced blow-by. This also enables Ford to use low-tension rings."

I've got a '11 fx4 with the ecoboost and 3.73. I put a 4" rancho and 35s. After 2 months and 3500 miles I'm averaging 12 mpg...the truck doesn't lack power, but I don't see the mpg ever getting better...

The best I saw was a 300 mile road trip with 14ish...the worst is 8 and that's just short trips to the lake hauling a jet ski trailer...

I ordered a raptor when I bought this just in case something like this came up, and to be honest, I thought it was going to be a power issue, not an mpg issue...it's being delivered next week...I'll be swapping my wheels and taking the new truck...

For the hit that I'll take on the swap, it's worth it to me as id rather drive a v8 widebody with the same fuel consumption...

That's interesting feedback. Did you drive the truck at all before the lift and tires? Just kinda curious to know what kinda of mileage the truck got before adding the weight and drag of the lift and larger tires.

Did you ever adjust for the tire size, or consider regearing? I don't know of any tuners available yet and according to Ford there is limited ability to adjust for tire sizes in the stock program. Maybe the tech's around here can shed more light on this, but I'm guessing the numbers are skewed because of the larger/heavier tires not being adjusted for.

I find it hard to swallow that you lost that much....... I could see 3-4 miles per gallon dropping you down to 16-17ish but 12???????
I live at 10,500 feet and drive up and down passes every day and I run hard and my 5.4 runs 16.5 to 17.5 for a average. I must note I run mid grade fuel and off road mode a lot. Off road mode is to help out with the darn tranny wanting to shift all the time .........

The first thing I did was re-calibrate for the tire difference, ford tech did it in minutes, they have a 35 inch tire to choose from...It was nice to not have to get a programmer like back in the day...

I had the truck for 500 miles maybe before the lift/tires i was seeing 17-18, but the motor has to break in, so im sure that would have gone up.

There is no need to re-gear, like i had thought I might have to, the truck has tons of power, and its basically like a 3.55 now...

My dealer cant believe Im only getting 12-13 mpg either, but i am...

I haul a 2 place jet ski trailer 5 days a week for 5 miles a day...other than that the truck is a creampuff...I drive normal, I dont drive it like a race car. and my mpg history is 12.4 after 3500 miles.

And I run 93 premium...
