Draive train / tranny issue?

Wondering what folks think happened today with my 2010 scab.
Several times when accelerating mildly at about 30mph the truck would make a 'schhhhhhhhhh-lunk' noise. I assumed it was something with the tranny, though the sound seemed like it was coming from the back of the cab, and almost sounded like a vehicle dropping into 4X4 mode (so much so I even toggled the 4hi in and out to see it it was sticking). I stopped a few times, and did an acceleration, and it did this to varying degrees 3 or 4 times. The last time I was trying to get it to do it again I had to let off the gas just near the 30mph region, and there was a fairly clunky down shift. After that the next 60 or so miles it was normal, no 'schhhhhhhhhhh-lunk', and no clunkiness.
Transfer case? Tranny? Sticking valve in the tranny?

Have you had a chance to speak with your Ford Dealer about this? They'll be best to provide you with a diagnosis. What's the current odometer reading on your F-150?

May be the driveshaft, may be a bulletin on the issue. call your dealer and have them run your vin.

I would recommend visiting your dealership. Sometimes you need to have them reflash the ECM/TCM to solve shifting issues in the transmission. But it could be a myriad of possible issues. Moisture in the transmission wiring harness, low transmission fluid resulting from a leak at the bulkhead connector or leaking transmission cooler lines, bad u-joints, needing the pinion yoke at the transfer case greased or replaced. But the only real way to find out for certain is to take it in for diagnosis.

Well I had the truck to the dealer, and got pretty much what I expected. That is, since its not making a noise now, there is nothing they can do. They were underneath it, see nothing wrong, noise not present. So, wait and see.
I have about 110K miles on it, have had odd 'blips' with the tranny about every 6 months or so, where it does a funky up or downshift, but then its fine. Since this event I have driven about 5 or 6 hours, a few hundred miles (or so), and that shift point is as smooth as can be, with no noise. I have the tranny flushed every 50k miles, so that was done this past spring again. I also had it reflashed about a year ago. Time will tell I guess. In the meantime they wouldnt even hazard a guess.

My truck has done something similar to what you've been experiencing as of late. It doesn't happen at low speeds like yours but when I floor it and left off the gas as the rpm's start dropping the truck switches gears and shoots up pass 6k rpms and returns back to the gear it was in before it changed. No noise associated with it but it does feel like my truck is hitting a wall. Are you running any tunes?

no tuners, bone stock . when this happened there was no spike in rpm either.

Hey Crystal,
2010 w/ 16,500 miles.. I'm debating on taking off the tune and running without it for a week. Then unplugging the battery for over 10 minutes and reinstalling the tune. I'll probably take my truck in soon and also put videos up of how weird I have sudden spikes in rpm's
