Does a tuner make $en$e?

I average mid 19s on a 5 mile stretch of pretty flat highways here in Va Beach.

Mods - tonneau cover (who knows it if really does anything)

5 star 87 performance tune and intake.

.

Do you recall what you mileage was BEFORE the 5 Star tune? I do mostly city driving and am getting between 10.0 and 11.5 mpg. I would like to crunch numbers to get to a reasonable ROI on a tuner....

I got 14.5 before the tune. 5 Star does offer a "Economy" Tune to get you better gas mileage. I turned it down. If I wanted good gas mileage I would have bought an ecoboost something or other.

My city numbers average between 11 and 13mpg. I'm currently running the 87 eco tune which helps a bit but its pretty fricken hard to get good gas mileage in the city. I like to beat on my truck too much.

By the way- I've got the stage 2 intake from 5 star and the x3 tuner with his tunes on there. Haven't tried the 93 performance tune yet. I'll have to give it a shot on the next fill up.

I really doubt there is a difference between the eco and performance tunes once on the highway (unless of course your jumping octane), the eco tune mainly just changes the shift points so your truck gets into a higher gear faster. After driving in the 87 performance tune for awhile the eco tune is kinda boring. can't wait to try out the 93 performance tune.

yall ever thought that drop in mileage may be due to the AC kicking on more? i know my mileage tends to go down big time during summer, but i keep the AC cranked!

Your right... I was simply wanting to justify the tuner $ sooner than later. Has anyone noticed better off-road response? I use Off-Road mode often and I think it does pretty well.....

That's awesome mileage! Especially for a speed I am frequently at and the dominant terrain around me.. I can't wait for the raptor regardless!

I tried to find the BS flag, but couldn't....but.... BS.

I have the 5 star, 87 eco tune, and 100+ miles, with a 24 mph tailwind, I saw 15.0 mpg.

Over a 5 mile distance? maybe, if you were already on cruise and reset it. Reset it and drive 50-100 miles on a highway, and lets see what you get.

BDRAG i also lost mileage. I went from 12.5 down to about 11. Also got a super 40 weld in and turndowns. Which might have something to do with it. I have got to change that thing out. Not happy with the sound when i get on it.

Sorry about the thread jack. Glad to see you are getting much better mileage.

I left averything alone as far as exhaust system sept for welding in the 44. Sounds great, Smooth and even, no poping. Wonderful growel when ya hammer it. Oem tips out the side as well. Did you do two seperate pipes and two 40's? Turn down under the truck is gonna make all kinds of cabin roar.

Milage went from 12.5 to 11.0-11.4 average on this summer shit!
