Just picked up my 17 Scab last night. Had to test the sport mode to see how much faster it is than my 13. Way faster!! Question is, when I took off from a start it spun the wheels and left 2 black marks. After two or three more tries I was leaving 30 foot double "posi" marks if you will. Does sport mode engage the electronic locking diff or is there some type of conventional clutch inside the axle as well?

First small one I did was from rolling start and just floored gas. Didn't see the tire marks till I drove back around and that got me wondering. Next few were from a stop. Once the tires start spinning the back end slides around easily like a Mustang and you can pretty much hold it like that as long as you can afford it. Who knows how much these tires cost.

Highly doubt sport mode, meant for street use, engages the rear locker. More likely, the clutch packs kicked in when wheel spin was detected. Remember, in addition to the locking rear, there is a clutch pack in there for AWD mode.

The only modes that automatically lock the rear diff are Mud/Sand and Rock Crawl.

That's the question, clutch packs inside rear diff yes or no? As for break in, mine came with a polite sticker on the windshield that states mine had been randomly selected for "road testing" and to disregard the 30 miles on the odo. They prob beat the crap out of it in Michigan salt and snow. Just what I wanted. I never drove my 13 in Winter and now I guess I'm stuck w it or wait another 6 months for another.
