This thread is kind of silly. Even with a lock box inside, all vehicles are subject to be broken into or stolen. For that reason alone, one should never "store" their weapon in the vehicle. Most "carry" permits that I know of require the weapon to be on your person. That's why it's called a carry permit. Everyone does what they want of course but in my professional life I've seen too many guns go bye-bye forever after the owner decided to keep a gat in the vehicle when they weren't in it at the same time.

Some people have the audacity to keep a gun in there home, even so someone could brake in and make that gun go bye-bye...
This is a anti gun argument used by anti gun legislations passed to 'Protect' us...

My office wouldn't be too keen on me carrying my pistol around the office - concealed or not. If they found out I was (which I don't), I would be fired immediately and escorted off the premises and my personal belongings at the office mailed to my home. For this reason alone, I leave my gun in the truck during the day. If it's a weekend, the gun is on my person or in my truck in the garage.

You can keep a weapon in a glove box here, CHL or not, Thank You Mr. Perry 2008. You're sure right about the vehicle break in rate. Chance of it getting in the wrong hands would be hard to deal with if a crime was committed with a handgun I had owned.

You're way off base there PropDr. I was only pointing out known facts and safety concerns. I have carry privileges in all 50 states thanks to HR 218 and I've been collecting firearms since I was a young man. I believe the United States 2nd amendment is one of the last things that truly distinguishes our great nation of freedoms from the rest of the world. That freedom also carries responsibilities though. If you avail yourself of our 2nd amendment rights then it is incumbent that you protect that hardware from getting in the wrong hands.

At home I have a National Security vault that I store all my firearms in. I would actually laugh if some idiot tried to compromise it. I don't store guns in cars. Period. I understand why some people may do so on a short term basis once in a while but even that's not a great idea. I've investigated the theft or break-ins of so many vehicles in my life where the owner was unfortunate enough to have weapons inside at the time that this issue is a no-brainer for me.

So before anyone starts spouting off about perceived "anti gun" sentiments, just ask yourself how you would feel if some jitbag got ahold of your guns without you even having the opportunity to resist or fight back. Theft happens way too often and it's the most common way for criminals to get guns besides straw purchases. Fast and furious didn't help either but I won't go there right now.

I'm not trying to poo poo anyones carry privileges but I would like all gun owners to take the security of their firearms seriously. Very few people ever see their guns again after they've been jacked. Easier to prevent that than to deal with the aftermath. That is all.
