Dealership did say they would install plugs and wires I provide. They added .5hr to the job. So 3hrs or $377 for just labor.

Ok. i was going to do a separate thread, but there is a ton of good info on this one.

But i have a couple of additions to help you guys out.

REMOVE THE INNER FENDER LINERS

They come out pretty easy. pull the wire keepers. pop off the flares, then undo the bolts underneath. That and a couple of push plugs and you are done.

Then accessing the front plugs is a breeze.

as far as extensions go, a few are going to be useful. another trick is to put electrical tape around the unversal (if you have a real loose one) so it doesn't flop around when you are trying to put the plugs back in.

the other trick is using a spark plug socket to put the top spark plugs in (and out). But you can't push the plug in to much, or when you got to pull the socket off the plug, it will put out of the extension rather than releasing the plug. so just put the plug about halfway on the plug like this

NOT LIKE THIS

Then what i would do is just thread it in a few threads and pull the socket off and swap it to a standard socket. my spark plug socket just barely fit in the holes for the top spark plugs and the standard snap on had more room so it went on much easier and i had a better feeling on when it was tight.

I was also able to reuse the factory wire keepers. If you are careful when you cut the attached zip tie, you can reuse it with another zip tie. worked well.

Good tips...greatly appreciated! I just ordered a set of plugs and wires. Going to do it on my Beast. I did my own on my ‘04 FX4 5.4L at 160K with the original notorious plugs! Did the whole cleaning /blowing and soaking ritualistic process over night and then the warming (not hot) the next day, and yes multiple sets of extensions etc... Also, being the original owner, and since more than 70% highway miles, and excellent maintenance, as well regular gas additives helped with not having a single broken or stuck plug! I also purchased and not need a Leslie plug extraction tool just in case!

I am hopeful that the 6.2L can’t be harder? Just more plugs...

I've done both - the 6.2 is slightly harder and it's a more laborious job just based on 16 plugs vs. 8. But definitely doable.

So pissed... plugs in 6 of 8 coil packs were seriously corroded. Fun little trip to the dealer to buy 4 new coil packs slowing me down.
