Just got done with my first outting with the Deavers....AMAZING!!
I took a trip to the Afton Rd./Mojave River Basin area (same place I tested the front perch adjustment). The area has a nice mix of everything. Washboard roads, washes, small whoops, roads with rocks embedded, small dune area and lots of sand.
First thing to note is the pack I have on now sits about an inch lower...that will change. The Deaver guys wanted me to get out and test the feel to make sure the design of the pack is right.
For those who haven't driven with me or seen my skidplate I don't take it that easy...I like to give the truck a workout.
Well the first thing I noticed was the smoothness of the Deavers. On the rough washboard/embedded rock roads that would cause the rear of the truck to shudder shake and skip the truck was totally smooth!! No uneasyness at all...AMAZING!!!
The performance on the whoops was equally as impressive....mind you we're talking maybe 12" at the most. Nice a supple no 'bucking' to speak of. With my front end adjusted going through whoops at speed caused a harsh feeling because the rear was bowing through the stroke...all gone!! Because the rear is sitting a little lower and the shock is sitting lower in the stoke there are certain places I felt the rear end get stiffer but if the rear end was 'unloaded' prior to a hit it was almost unnoticable.
Through the 50 miles or so offroading today:
-bottoming resistance improved with no 'bucking'
-Bottoming is not as harsh as stock...I had to put my head under there and see if the bumpstop actually touched cause I couldn't tell from inside!!
-Impressive thing about the bottoming is I'm giving up some up-travel due to the rear end sitting lower than stock!!
-Roads that caused shudders before are now smooth
-Acts more like an independent suspension...especially in turns with whoops.
-Rebound of spings is more fluid
-Under full-droop the spring pack does 'kiss' the exhaust (Not an issue for Dan).
-I can cruise at 40mph through almost anything (whoop sections require a little more speed) without the truck braking a sweat or making any noise!!
Only complaint, if I could call it that, is the shock sitting too far in the stroke...but that should be remedied in the nest few days.
The guys at Deaver got the design right on just need to get it fine tuned for Vegas!!
PS: The spings did settle and the rear end is lower than the pic earlier in the post. I will try and get a pic today or tomorrow.
