Sucks that you had mechanical issues but looks like an epic trip nonetheless. Focus on the positive. Nice pics.

2 years back we did 6k rt from NY to Utah in my then ‘17 Raptor. This year we are heading back in my ‘19. Moab. Page, AZ, and then Raptor Assault.

With Whipple going back and forth from tune to stock is not an option. I spent four days in the area, Unfortunately, I had to be careful not to get myself in a location that I will not be able to recover the truck. Every morning we prayed the codes would clear and the truck will start, so we were happy to finally get back on black top. Kind of put a damper on the trip, also I didn't go off road at other National Parks we visited on the way home. The truck runs great now with 93 octane but I have to figure out a fix for my Canada/Alaska trek I am planning next year. I really like the tune but it may be a problem to have it. I'll contact Whipple and see if they have a way to tune for lower octane.

You could consider the Cobb AP for sure. It would be perfect for what you are trying to accomplish. Extra power when you need it or want it - dial it back according to fuel when you have to. It makes about 18lbs of boost on 87 and 25 on the 93 tune. The difference is night and day. Plus on 87 tune you can still control the pedal response and the truck feels much more responsive just because of that. I highly suggest it, its well worth the money - i think $700 or so.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned....but if you were down to 2 miles to go you essentially were running on backwash & fumes, it is NOT a good idea to let any vehicle get down that low on fuel....particularly a TT V6 running 2 fuel injection systems. Forget the fuel could've sucked up some sludge or debris of some sort.

Also - adding a couple bottles of octane booster wouldn't do the trick?

Bring a can w/ ya next time!

I have read that octane boost seriously messes these up and makes things worst. I dont know from experience personally but just reading on these forums it sounds like a no-no on these motors. Though I have heard good things about Boostane for forced induction vehicles. I have seen a couple tuners suggest it.

Interesting, I’ve ran octane booster any had no ill effects. Any info on why not to?

I don't personally - I have just read against it on this forum. Apparently it has fouled plugs and had people start throwing codes and not running right.
