Once it gets torn up improperly from disengagement- what will it no longer do? Engage when you need it.

The lack of engagement IS the issue when you need 4WD and it won't work.
I have seen CV axles with 1/2 the teeth ground off from 1/2 engaged/disengaged IWE that still lock to the IWE when vacuum was removed.

If you drive that long (estimated to take about 2000 miles of grinding) then you deserve what you get if it don't work when you finally ask it to.

I ain't seen everything, but I did just check sales history and my shop has done 162 IWEs (including 4 this week) in the last 3 years. 4 axles that were badly damaged.

I just do not see the lack of engagement on the F150, on the superduty yes.

Transfer case operation is independent of the IWE/hubs.

Not sure what you are saying with that last post other than confirming 100% that IWEs suck ass?

Most people just don't know any better. How vehicles operate is not in their scope. They use it until it doesn't do the thing anymore.
