Maybe?? That’s how I bought mine in Ohio. Exactly like that. Sign contract, copy of drivers license and deposit. They said they have to do that because dealers were ordering them without buyers in place and then trying to sell them with ADM and they do not want them to sit on the lot for long periods of time.
If it's a large dealership and they move a lot of product, they get more allocated builds. It does not mean that they can guarantee you a build if they don't have any more slots left.
Dealerships also generally know how many allocations they will receive for a model year very early in the year. So if your dealership got, for instance, 20 allocations and only 10 had been filled, they can guarantee you a truck.
It does not, however, mean that Ford is no longer allocating builds.
