I've been asking myself all this since i bought my Raptor and I've hardly started anything.

First "big" mod was a SVC bumper and 30" lightbar.... pretty penny and looks cool as hell... but does it do anything for me? Not really! LOL! My truck has never seen dirt outside of my jobsite. But when I get back to CO, driving at night on a lonely empty highway, and being able to light up the road and see that herd of deer could be priceless!

Now Im scheduled to drop my whoopty off at SVC this coming saturday to get some Deaver +2's installed and Im soooo hoping the ride improvement is worth it! But it kinda makes me ask how far do I really wanna go? This is my daily driver/work vehicle... so do I NEED to go to 3.0s??? For the few times I ever get into the dirt to put them to use... will they really be worth it? Will they improve my ride on the street enough that I'll be happy i spent the money? Hell, just thinking about things like bump stop kits... For the rare time I hit the desert will I ever go flying through bumps worthy of such a mod or will my fear of damaging my daily driver keep it tame???

Guess for me it rolls back to how will it ride on the street (since i put ALOT of highway miles down) and will it carry dirtbikes well? Lets face it... I have WAY more fun and go way more places on a dirtbike than I ever have had in any of my trucks or rock crawlers. Considering Im a 34 year old bachelor with no kids, zero debt, and make pretty darn nice money.... I often end up telling myself not listening to the "realistic" side of my mind and going with the "Fawk it... might as well do it cause I can!" side of my brain.

Thing I've noticed is I havnt gotten as much satisfaction out of my SVC bumper because I didnt install it myself... and its going to be the same way with the Deavers. For me the best part of a mod is whipping out the tools and doing it myself! Heck, a few days ago I wired up a bunch of orange and white strobes on my truck and it honestly had a freaking blast! Nothing glamorous... but just building wiring harness out, figuring where to mount stuff, and crawling around under the truck was just really freaking satisfying. My new chick was even laughing because I was apparently like a little kid when I dragged her out in the cold to show her my new lights and all the different little things I did!

Come to think of it.... May just need to upgrade the stereo for all the road miles!

!

I have spent a lot $ on mods over the past 25 years saying Fawk it! Never looked back, but early on someone suggested I keep keep track and I did on a spreadsheet. All I can say is unless you are an equipment owner you would never understand why we spend what we do to have fun!

Life is short - have fun - don't look back!

This last weekend was my first real experience in some desert terrain. I've bombed down logging roads and trails and open play areas but nothing like this. I learned that I despise mud, severly dislike rock, get the blah for whoops, and love wide open flatout roads. I just want to go fast.

I saw @factive take his truck down the same trail I did and he easily ran the whole thing at 80 + the whole way. I ran 50-60 and was still a little scared. Granted he had ran that trail multiple times before and also has Stage 4+ or whatever it is called these days. So he had that knowledge and confidence in his vehicle. So today I priced out the stage 4 and asked if I really need to spend $11,000 to have fun and go an extra 20-30mph?

No. I'll probably buy a really good bumpstop and rear springs and call it a day until I blow something out trying to go faster than I know I should.

It's all about intended use. I don't live near the desert, so I don't need all the big suspension upgrades, etc. But I do plan on going on as many runs as I can, which include bombing around the desert, so the deavers and SVC bump stop kit went in. Everything else I'm doing is just for protection and to individualize it more.

Then you'll love the Red Desert run!

I am doing basically the same thing, I have added lights, VHF, GPS, next up is rear leaf and bump stops. I am keeping the suspension stock for now, the runs I have been on so far I have kept up pretty good and haven't wrecked much yet...
