Chips are integrated circuits could be a sip single inline processor or a dip dual inline processor. They communicate along a bus line.
Manufacturing takes place in clean rooms and yield is ( might be better now)about 50% From photo resist templates to actual silicone boat wafers this is an incredibly complex hi tech process even involving deionized water to avoid metallic ion contamination. Each dip or sip can contain thousands of transistors, and there are-many different types of transistors Add to this surface mounted devices
Smd’s resistors capacitors diodes rectifiers, etc. all needed to complete circuits. And with Covid and cancellations auto industry lost their place in line. So now they are at the back of the line. Simple economics.
Ps: think supply and demand cell phones and play stations ,tv’s and a thousand other things competing to control electron flow.
Hardware is usually a few years ahead of software development, there you have it. Will take time to normalize, providing shynese ( where we have given most production to) cooperate. Got it.
