Guys,

So I started the perch adjustment today. All I can say is what a pain in the ass.

I removed the nut on the lower end of the sway bar end link, but due to the pressure on the sway bar, I could not remove the end link. So I spun the nut back on and removed the nut on the top.

Then I went to removing the tie rod end. The thing to know about how these suspension components work is the threaded rid/bolt piece is not tight into what I would call the knuckle. It spins. Thankfully it has a nut shape to the end, so you can throw a socket or wrench on it to hold it in place, and then use a wrench to move the nut itself. So I got the tie rod end off.

Then I moved to the bolt and nut that hold the upper A arm. I got this nut all the way down, almost all the way off, and then it was stuck. These frickin' nuts have a nylon liner that acts like what I would describe as a built in lock washer. Well, I couldn't get the ****** all the way off. In fact, I could barley get it back on! I was freaking out since it was in no shape to ride on a flat bed if I had to have it towed to a shop. In he end I put a 10mm socket on it, and a LONG 7/8 closed end wrench and grunted and cussed until it tightened back on.

So, long story short, I come to you in defeat. If someone on here can say "yeah, that nut is a ******. Just put on your big girl ******* and muscle it off" then I'll try again, but for now I'm done. My honey-do list still includes mowing the lawn and some painting!

In the end, you all are MORE than welcome to come by, and I will help for sure, but if we run into trouble like I did, it's going to take a long time to get these done. Being a little pessimistic, I would almost tell Badger and pwjstruebig to hold off. I'd hate to have you guys drive all this way to not be able to figure it out, but your call of course.

Thoughts? If anyone wants to chat, you all have my cell phone from the PM's we traded, so shoot me a text or call.

So my fantasy of last minute showing up, droping a bill and sleeping with a gun next to me is out?

Nice effort Todd and I feel your pain. That is exactly why my vette shop wants to do mine first in order to get a handle on the job. It was smart trying to do yours beforehand. It would be a bitch for some of the guys to drive big miles for a no go. We still have plan B with my shop, it would just have to be sometime over the winter, when all the vettes are a sleep.

I also have another idea in mind. A buddy of mine is good friends with a Tech at Libertyville Ford. I will ask him if he has done these mid perch adjustments....and see where it goes...

Completely Todd's call, but I would recommend a future date until one of us has been able to do this mods first. I think it would be a mistake for 5-6 trucks to show up and run into issues, IMO.
