Check your 4x4 IWE system

Im not sure what some folks are saying here. The IWE system doesnt affect the transfer case of diff, just the hubs. They are either locked or unlocked. This just reduces wear and drag when in 2wd vs 4wd or Auto mode. There would be no benefit to put it in any mode if the IWE system fails. Ive see the IWE deletes but I prefer to be able to unlock the hubs for my 99% street driving style.

I dont think the actuator effects anything besides the IWE, its not directly attached to the brake booster so shouldn't affect That system. Mines completely unplugged as seen in the picture but worked just fine. I am just stuck in 2wd mode until my new actuator shows up.

see how two of the vacuum hoses that usually attach to the solenoid are pushed together (eliminating the solenoid) to prevent a vaccum leak? If those two hoses come apart. you will have ZERO brake booster vacuum.

All I know is I had a horrible grinding sound coming from the front drivers side hub intermittently of course. Bad check valve that has a TSB. Problem fixed with a loaner F150 and two days of their time.

see how two of the vacuum hoses that usually attach to the solenoid are pushed together (eliminating the solenoid) to prevent a vaccum leak? If those two hoses come apart. you will have ZERO brake booster vacuum.
I put them like that to unlock my hubs. Have you check for the gen 2 raptor to make sure thats correct information? The IWE is a closed system and only breaks off to go to a vacuum reservoir.

I experienced it first hand when the solenoid fell off the brake booster on a desert run on my truck. The solenoid has to draw its vacuum from somewhere. Apparently, it draws it from the same vacuum reservoir that the brakes use.

Misspoke. The solenoid doesnt draw directly from the brake booster but I see how they are connected.

@zombiekiller - I "think" most of the failures are not a complete loss of vacuum to the IWEs. Thus you get intermittent grinding as you are driving in 2H. At least that was my symptom and most that I saw on the web (but guessing most that have complete failure won't notice unless the get an on truck balance or notice gas milage)....

they are. it is generally one of 3 things.

1. pinhole in a line or fitting
2. check valve failures
2. solenoid failure.

In any case, the system maintains a vacuum. (as far as the vacuum reservoir is concerned.)

Some report loss of around 1 mpg. Others say sounds. I saw nothing until it was getting high speed balanced. After that I paid extra attention to it and didnt really notice anything.

So changed out a brand new solenoid. Still wont change over to unlocked. Is there a fuse associated with this? Cant seem to figure it out
