Chasing that "frt end clunk"

So then what's a strut mount?

When it's so widely known what the right term is, I just don't get why people dont use it. It's like saying i have 35" BFG wheels on my truck, I know what they meant, but come on.

This is what a strut mount looks like. See how its the same as the OEM top mount on our front shocks?

A tire is not a wheel, thats not the same comparison. A strut is still a shock...

Because the Fox's dont use rubber bushings for the mounting points, you're going to feel a bit more from the front end. Not saying your Fox's aren't an issue to tho...

Just pulled my new fox 3.0s because of a clunk I noticed after install. Really notice it when going over a speed bump quickly, like it was topping out. Turns out both shocks were low on oil from Fox and on the passenger side, the little cross pin that holds the DSC adjuster in place had fallen out on install, so it wasn't doing jack and if I'd over loosened them, it would have just come right out. Pic here shows it installed properly before reinstall, but it was floating around inside when we took it apart. Anyway, put it back together, clunk was still there. Lower ball joints look to have a good bit of play and the sway bar end links seem pretty roached, as well as the UCA bushings. Guess I have some parts to replace...

Any luck with this helping the clunk?

Havent had a chance to install the parts yet unfortunately. Packing to move houses and have a few parts to install on both my cars, but the wife isn't having it :argue:

Copy that! I greased everything, double checked lower ball joints and upper arm bolts, installed new sway bar end links (which did help a little bit), and I STILL have that clunk. Last resort for parts is all new lower arms and new shock bolts. Or there is an issue internally in the shock, but I really don't think thats the issue, everything came apart and went back together correctly when we rebuilt them, as far as I know...

Upper ball joint. Replace the upper arms.

For me I have replaced everything on the front end except for the lower arms. I have the camburg upper arms, new lower ball joints, new sway bar end links, CVs have been serviced and all good, Fox 3.0s with everything triple checked and torqued down, lower shock bolt is properly torqued with a 3/4" torque wrench at 415 ft/lbs or whatever that number is.

End links, easy to check: Just pull the one on the side that's making noise. It takes 5 minutes and can be done with the truck on the ground.

If you have replaced everything in the suspension check your drivers side door check. Mine was bad and I would have sworn it was a suspension noise. Also check your hood hinge/latch adjustment, make sure the hood can't rattle (just grab and shake).

There are also a number of things that are fixed to the front fender liner. If one of them comes loose it can knock on that fender liner and sound like suspension noise.

Check to make sure your gauge cluster is in tight, mine was replaced by ford and they did a half assed job and it would rattle on a dirt road, sounded just like suspension noise.

Make sure there is no loose wiring under the dash.
