What are you wanting to use it for??? General use, or offroad specific? Photos? Video? ....both??

If general use, I'd recommend the new Sony Cybershot.... It has 1080p HD video capability, burst mode, and can take panoramic photos, I have the navy blue one and am pretty happy with it. I got a suction cup mount at Best Buy that I use to mount it to the inside of my windshield when I wanna film some off-roading.

If off-road specific, the GoPro cameras seem to be the best value of what is currently out there. You can mount them on damn near anything and the casing looks pretty tough. My cousin has one that he mounts to his dirt bike helmet. With a GoPro you would be able to safely mount the cam outside of the truck when offroading. The GoPro Hero HD shoots 1080p video and can go anywhere..... People even mount them on surfboards.

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend. I have the Digital EOS Canon Rebel XT
and it really takes some amazing pictures but it is pricey.

No prob. GoPro behind the grille sounds like it would be really cool! You'd get a great visual perspective of the Raptor attacking terrain. I like that idea. The tricky part would be lining up the lens where the grille wouldn't obstruct too much of the view... but when there's a will there's a way.

What about mounting the GoPro in front of the lower grille??

The way I drive, mounting anything below the door handles would be covered in mud!
I've gone through dozens of cameras since digital came out, and have found nothing nice to say about sony, fuji or nikon. Canon is my current favourite (i have 3) and Olympus is a close second. I use the Olympus the most (stylus tough 8010) as it can take a beating, and I am prone to drop the damn thing off the roof now and then.
I am currently exploring a way to mount a camera from the sunroof opening, so it points down slightly and provides a better overview of conditions on the trail - however since its winter here, I probably wont have a working model ready until May or so!

I also have a cyber shot, its been a pretty good camera. But mine doesn't zoom during video recording mode, which sucks. Would love to get a Go Pro or something similar one day.

I've used the GoPro on a friend's surfboard. Seemed pretty bomber and got some nice clips.

Snowboarding I have the Vio POV. Mine's an older model but they should have their HD version out in the next month. Really like having the remote single cable connection and wireless start/stop/loop control. Interchangeable and separate camera heads is a nice feature. It is extremely rugged and is literally battle tested. Pricey, but I've not been disappointed. Huge variety of mounts available.
