Does anyone know if you take your truck in for a phaser issue and its confirmed do you have to get the work done right away or can you wait until the warranty is almost out that is provided it doesn't get too bad ?

You can wait. My dealer had told me that but since I’m not using it much right now I went ahead and took it in.

I’m now on day 5 of the “2 day” job...

Unfortunately, I didn't even get a chance to post the details of my first failure (46k) before the second occurred at 47k. A couple weeks ago, I took her in for an oil change and mentioned the rattle. 2 weeks later, the oil change was finished along with the latest cam phaser update.

I am having a tough time with this. I absolutely love that truck, but I can't come to grips with what is going on. I was stranded 200 miles from nowhere when the engine failed. The worst part is, Ford and Enterprise are so spooked by the media (i.e. COVID) that they would rather leave you stranded in the rain in the middle of nowhere than give you a ride to somewhere safe. I'm having trouble seeing how I can trust this vehicle again.

Engine failure is completely unrelated to cam phaser rattle on startup. What failed in the engine? If it occurred after cam phaser replacement, sounds like a workmanship issue from the dealership.

With everything I'm reading I'm thinking about waiting as long as possible to see if things get better and also there will be more wear on the timing parts then I can get that all changed out at the higher mileage .

Thanks for the response. I'll post more details once I hear from my dealer. They are having my truck shipped up here today (I think). Any advice or questions I should be asking? I'm trying not to completely freak out.

Also - I noticed that I said "first failure" in my original post. There was no first failure of any kind. I took her in for an oil change at 46k and mentioned "the rattle" which resulted in the cam phaser update. The diagnosis and repair took about a week and a half. Sorry for the poor description.

There is another TSB coming? Are they updating from CD to CE parts?

Back from your ban vacation I see, and picking up right where you left off.

There is and never was a TSB for this concern. The CD is the revised part. Stop trying to spread misinformation and cause confusion.

The only difference between the SSM and a TSB is that the TSB standardizes the labor ops and provides a list of all required parts to complete the repair.
