I had originally voted "NO" on this poll at some point in the past, but I just recently got the DREADED cold start up rattle. Just under 20K miles. Always changed the synthetic oil at every 5k. Changed Break-in oil at 1k. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Oil. Zero mods. So, I guess it's time to get to the Service Dept at my Dealer!

Currently on my 3rd set of cam phasers. 2/2018 build. 38k miles.

I would vote “yes” 2x if I could.

Dealership says they have to replace the campcam 32,000 miles early 2017 truck. They told me it will take two weeks and they are backed up on loaner cars. So im on my own for two weeks. My other car is a porsche gt4 (two seats) and i have three boys. Not exactly ideal. Way to go ford with your amazing cam phaser design. LOL

You can still drive your truck while waiting to get into the shop

how would can i open a case with the Ford regarding this issue.

1st dealer is telling there is no noise

2nd dealer who had it for a week is telling me the noise is there on a cold start. However it goes away i am tying to explain the SSM 48445 clearly says rattle noises from top of the engine front cover for 2-5 seconds after a cold start.

but again they are telling me it has to be constant.

I called Ford customer service and had good results.

The noise won't be constant and will only occur on a cold start; that dealer doesn't seem to understand the issue.

A TSB (20-2191) was released this morning which supercedes the SSM; same service part numbers, just now an official bulletin instead of a service message to standardize the labor time/parts list.

Definitely suggest calling Ford corporate for additional support; they should be able to find you a dealer willing to help and set up and appointment for you. Contact number is (800) 392-3673

Just had mine replaced this week. Initially noticed the noise around 17K, it was faint at this time and I knew it was unlikely to be taken care of. Fast forward to 27K and it was a very pronounced rattle on cold start and no denying the problem.

So some dealers take the cab off to do this job, is it faster to do it that way and if so what are the ramifactions to removing the cab?

Apparently the 'book' doesn't mandate the cab to come off for the job, some tech's may prefer it and will do it. I think I'd prefer not to have the cab removed but that's just me as I think certain wiring needs to be undone.
