I bought it through Randy. Even though it was courtesy delivered to a local dealer, the selling dealer was out of state so I had to jump through hoops.

First, I will most likely feel your pain!! As I too have purchased my truck out of state(Ohio)..haha.

Question:

Can you please give us residents of this Soviet state of California how long this took you? (ie. pick up date, dmv date, etc.)

Also,

Was there ever a time during this dilemma that you could not legally drive your truck? and if so how long and if you can a background of the scenario?

Thanks for the thread, good to know what will be coming once the truck comes:birgits_tiredcoffee

Not only did I have to weigh mine and fork over a ton of taxes/fees, I also had to smog my brand new truck. That was a real PITA since I already had my Volant CAI installed. Most smog shops out here are so **** that they wouldn't even touch the truck. Fortunately, my neighbor around the corner recently opened a smog shop so now I've got it covered.:waytogo:

Oh how I don't miss CA DMV and smog tests.

I had several things done to my last vehicle and I had to have CARB certificates/stickers for everything and even with those, there were several places that flat out wouldn't do the test. Amazing!

My wife's from there and more than likely we will end up back there but man, I'm not looking forward to that part. I have several friends that maintained their out of state registration for that reason and I think I may join them in the future.

So while being at the dmv for the third time today I spoke with supervisor of my local dmv and asked about registering the rig as a passenger car. As of last month DMV was ordered not do this practice anymore of registering trucks with shells as a passenger car. The only way to register it is to have a fixed camper that cannot be removed. What a joke.
