Broken Driver side half shaft

I see 98% of you saying is normal what happen in this scenario. Only FordTechOne agreed that the shaft should not broke so easy and can be a manufacture problem.
I agree all opinions. What is someone from Ford will watch the video and will give a real and documented opinion not just .....
For me is not so important, just is something good to know.
Parts is ordered, easy to fix, not a big deal. I don't need compassion or someones hug to cry. I still think was a nice topic.
By the way...in photo is 2 wd after the damage

I can't remember how many 1/2 shafts I broke in a series 2 land rover. And that vehicle had probably less than 100 HP. I'm with a bunch of other comments, add 450 HP donuts and whatever is the weakest part will break.

I been in Sahara with my Land Cruiser and a friend of mine with Land Rover. As you say the land rover broke the 1/2 shafts almost every second day. But there is a shafts specially designed to broke and don't need to change all shafts. That can be done in les then 1 hour in the sand. Did not expect same from the Raptor

It actually will only take about 20 minutes with a cordless impact.



1. Jack the truck up . Make sure it is stable. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the two brake caliper bolts.

3. Hang the caliper with a zip tie.

4. remove the rotor.

5. remove the dust cap.

6. Remove the nut that secures the axle. ( 13mm IIRC)

7. Disconnect the steering tie rod end from the knuckle ( IIRC its an 18mm bolt)

8. Remove the Bolt that connects the Upper control arm to the knuckle.

9. Remove the knuckle end of the broken shaft.

10. Use a pry bar to free the Differential end of the axle shaft.

11. Insert new Axleshaft.

12. Reassemble in reverse order.


It's actually really easy once you've done it a few times.

Same answers here as on the Facebook Raptor group. You made a mistake, broke your truck and you aren't getting the sympathy you were looking for. No amount of arguing a CRV is better will change that. Chalk it up as a mistake, repair the truck and REMEMBER your mistake. Good luck!

I'm glad I wasted more time reading through these comments to see you fixed the boot really well with tape.

As I said on FB, don't bag on the truck. You or your friend (story seems to change) made a mistake. Not a big deal. Own it and move on.

High speed spinning then hook up will break any axle with enough power behind it. Rock crawlers deal with this all the time. You can dump a ton of money building axles stronger yet heavier and still break them. It’s easier just to regulate the right pedal. I do have a Dana 60 front left stub on my jeep out back as my personal latest screw up.

This is a new, 2020, 7000 km Raptor. This happen during a donuts in 4 WD. I have a video but i cant post here. Maybe i will upload on youtube. In the video we can hear the crack noise when the driveshaft broke. I post the video on the facebook group where on my big surprise most of the people say that is normal for a raptor. For me is unbelievable. We cant talk about warranty because the car is in Romania.

Sucks man. The Honda CR-V is not a 4wd vehicle it's an AWD vehicle. In either case 4wd is not a mode that should be used for donuts in the sand. When you see the TRX or Raptor doing donuts you don't see 4wd engaged:

Sand is different than snow and I'd say to educate yourself a little more on the different capabilities of your truck and what settings are correct for the given activity. It's not that you can't do 4wd donuts it's just that you shouldn't given the physics involved with traction putting stress on parts unexpectantly when you hook up. Surface material matters. The Raptor is as close to bullet proof as you'll get from the factory but it does require an understanding of how the systems are designed to operate. You're CR-V comparison for example says a lot about your lack of understanding and please...I'm not flaming you I just want to encourage you to dig in a little to understand that amazing toy you bought. Donuts on sand is extremely fun but be aware of the stresses and configure appropriately...also, flip overs are common if you aren't careful...hopefully this will save you from yourself
