I do take mine off road but I would not consider it a lot. I think it is a problem with the system and not just Fords. The guide pins have a rubber boot and are greased to help prevent them from sticking. My dealer said they Should be inspected and lubed every 15-20,000 miles. My dealer has said they have seen this problem Frequently. My point to Ford was - if they know this is a common problem they should redesign it ---- OR if they do think the guide pins should be cleaned and lubed every 15-20,000 miles, that procedure should be mentioned in the service book and DEALERS should do that as part of routine maintenance.

Agree with your point. Those rubber boots do NOT stay on very good at all. Once I saw what happens, after every offroad adventure, I will have to take the brakes apart to clean and lube, kinda sucks. If there is a better design, all for it.

Personally if you off road at all you should check everything after each off road event. Its sand, mud and water it gets everywhere! My drivers side front pin was bad at 15k.

Thanks for info guys. I have my truck serviced at Ford. They rotate the tires with each oil change, I guess I need to make sure they are checking/lubeing these time.

Oh don't worry, when they do their multi-point inspection they always actually check things and not just check boxes.

I bet they don't even check this on their 172 point inspection for pre-certified vehicles. I was googling and found this about holding these dealerships accountable for their "checklists". Sounds like unless you specify EXACTLY what you want done and "documented" then you don't stand a chance. The OP was lucky he got it covered and all to him for pursing it. My recommendation would to write everything down and have the service advisor sign off on it when presented and when completed.
